"Allergic" to guacamole but not grilled avocado?

I can eat grilled avocado slices fine, but I cannot consume guacamole. If I do, I vomit within one minute of swallowing it.

Is there any reason for this? I thought maybe if it was a bad batch of avocados or something, but I've tested it twice in locations 100 miles away and months apart.

In guac there's lime juice and cilantro in it. Possibly onions, garlic, and jalapenos. You're probably allergic to one of those.

Psychosomatic

psy·cho·so·mat·ic
ˌsīkōsəˈmadik/
adjective
(of a physical illness or other condition) caused or aggravated by a mental factor such as internal conflict or stress.

But neither time I got sick from guacamole have I been stressed out about anything pertaining to guacamole in particular. You'd think I'd develop an allergy to being an ugly sack of shit before one to guacamole.

I've eaten all of the additional ingredients you've mentioned just fine individually, though.

Well, can you eat raw avocado?

if they made it fresh, then its psychosomatic, if they didn't it might be in the seasoning. If you refuse to accept our advice even after asking for it go be an asshole somewhere else, and talk to a fucking dietitian, then at least when you inevitably deny whatever their findings are you'll be ignoring someone smarter than you out of your own psychosis instead of random chucklefucks on the internet. Don't confuse a nutritionist with a dietition btw. Nutritionists don't have to know shit to have a """"""degree"""""

>If you refuse to accept our advice even after asking for it go be an asshole somewhere else

It's not that I'm refusing advice, it's that pushing its psychosomatic when I don't have anything against avocado and can eat it in at least one other form without issue doesn't make sense.

Could it be a texture thing?
I used to not be able to handle the texture of guac, until I grew a set of balls and became a real adult.

Vomitting isn't the usual reaction to allergies

> he fell for the "picky eaters a shit!" meme

just stop eating guac my dude.

I vomit hard liquor almost immediately after taking shots. I can drink beer and wine all day and night though. :/

I get this with mayo. Mayo makes me violently ill whenever I eat it, but egg, oil, etc. doesn't bother me at all.

Try eating raw avocado and see if you still throw up.

With a food allergy you'd normally get swelling and itchyness, particularly in the lips and throat.

Myself I get a little queasy when I eat overcooked eggs, but I have no idea what causes it.

Maybe it has to do with raw avocado? Never eaten it grilled

Perhaps it is?
I'll try
I thought there might be some sort of enzyme that gets broken down from heat.

I can eat stuff like applesauce and mashed bananas, though that's the closest texture comparison I can think of.

wait, what kind of guacamole? homemade by you or some storebought stuff?
storebought stuff can have a lot of different things.
i once checked what they contain and one cheap guacamole had only 0,9% avocadopowder in it, no other mention of avocado

Restaurant.

Also update: Raw avocado also gets me to vomit. Only grilled avocado hasn't.

if this is the case then its 100% a psychological response, have you had bad experiences with avocado before? Food poisoning after a meal with a lot of guacamole maybe?

>I believe the demonstration that she can eat cooked avocado clearly points to the fact that heat does destroy the allergen in her case, and this would not be unexpected since the major allergen in avocado is Pers a 1. Pers a 1 is a class 1 chitinase. It is a 32 kDa heat-labile protein. Cooking would destroy it. Pers a 1 is also extensively degraded by gastric juice, but the resulting peptides can exhibit IgE-binding both in vivo and in vitro (1).

You are a pussy.

I want to buy a wok.
I've done enough research to know I want one made of carbon steel.
Preseasoned or no? I don't mind doing the work to get it going but it's pretty much a 2 to 3 dollar difference.

well that solves it, you're allergic to raw avocado

I don't know if it was food poisoning because I threw up but didn't feel any sort of illness after the last time in recent memory I had guacamole.

Oh, shit. Thanks, Anons. I guess I'll stick to the cooked stuff if I eat Avocado, then.

If you get a preseasoned one, a lot of places still recommend giving it a once-over yourself, anyway. At least I know that's the case with Lodge stuff.
