Can someone explain what it means to "Liquidate a long"? im simple terms please.
> m-muh oldfag. Kys.
Saw an “8”, got confused by that, why would you tweet $8
how fucking stupid does one have to be to ask this? Do you think even a little teeny bit before opening your dumb nigger mouth?
A liquidated long (in this context) occures when someone betted that the price goes down but it went up instead so much that they got liquidated.
You described a short
That would be a short.
Another brainlet here, still getting my head around liquidation. Why would you celebrate getting liquidated? Isn't that where you fuck up and the exchange takes all your mommybucks?
where do you see an 8
To sell your coin. A long is a long term investment but really just means you bought the coin at some time and now you hold it
Liquidate a long margin.
>borrow money/crypto from an institution
>purchase an asset with their money while accepting risk
>going "long" refers to holding the asset and assuming the price will go up
>liquidating the margin refers to selling your position, and simultaneously repaying the debtors of the initial transaction
>you keep the difference between the higher price and what you repay as a fee for accepting risk essentially
Yes, no one is celebrating it..
Is it even possible to trade Bitcoin with 100x leverage? The volatility in the swing will liquidate you either side of your trade.
Thank you :)
Thank you very much for your thorough answer. So if it increases in price, then you gain money, so why does it say "REKT"? wouldn't it be well played by the investors?
Also, if I borrow 1000 dollars from Bitmex to go long on BTC on Bitmex, I would then pay the 1000 dollars back + what % fee?
...
>How do so many retards have so much money?
They mined Bitcoin on mom's laptop 6 years ago and now they found out about leverage and are losing it all.
And in burgerland you get to pay taxes on those gains. Win win for everyone.
whos ever shorting right now.. please stop, you are not good at this shit lmfao, go long you fucking retards jesus fuck
Getting liquidated on there means they lost their bet and their accounts got cashed out by bitmex hence the rekt
>So if it increases in price, then you gain money, so why does it say "REKT"
Because it didn't rise in price from when they opened their contract; IE, they tried to long on the pump and the pump ended. They then have to pay back their lender, which means shelling out some of the own money to pay back the difference between the starting and liquidating position. In some of these cases, we're talking tens of thousands of dollars. That's why it says rekt.
yes, liquidation is bad for the investor, it means you lose everything. That twitter bot just lists all the liquidations because it's funny, and people make posts about it here to laugh at peoples failure/misery.
>450000 BTC
Yes it was definitely a $4.5 billion trade you mong
> their accounts got cashed out by bitmex
Not accounts, their position. Margin is isolated per position on Bitmex.
>going long on green candles
>going short on red candles
>100x leverage all the time
leverage trading isn't that risky if you can keep it to 5x leverage, not more than that
people just like to gamble
thats what they get for shorting a bullish btc
ego is a helluva drug
