Bakken Oil Field

I'm young and with a useless college degree. Heard there's opportunity here in North Dakota. If so, where?

I don't really give a shit about moving to an isolated location - seems like a nice change of pace. Any Veeky Forums fellas familiar with the area?

HAVE YOU considered buying TurtleCoin? that could really help your position in North Dakota.

MIGHT I suggest purchasing ChainLink? it would certainly benefit your stay in North Dakota

OP I don't know much but I know someone on here or somewhere else said that you can make good money by getting some kind of healthcare certification or something

Get your CDL and apply for jobs as an equipment operator or roughneck on the rigs. The markets in an upswing so its good timing

I work in the oil field in South Texas. Don't know dick about Dakota but ama about the oil field in general

Sure. Say I'm some punk kid out of an over-rated top 25 university with a meme degree(Poly Sci)

What's a good place to start to make bank? I don't view anything as beneath me - I obviously don't have a CDL yet but I'll get one if that's the best option.

Lmfao poli sci nerd from college you will get bullied right out of the industry

well just forget about the fact that you have a degree, it doesn't matter and honestly i'd never talk about it. have you ever worked a blue collar job?

Start with one of the big 3. Halliburton, Schlumberger, or baker. Doesn't matter what you do for them. I work for Halliburton and I can tell you right now we're hiring any fuckhead that can swing a hammer. Doesn't matter if you have a cdl, you just have to be able to get one (they'll pay for it you just have to qualify). Pay is great compared to what you're probably making currently, but it's minimum wage as far as oil field money goes. Put in a couple years with one of the big 3 and then specialize and move into a third party service (big bucks). Only reason I haven't left Halli is because my job is fucking easy and my boss is the shit. Probably going to leave this year though

Not true as long as you're not a soyboy and you can take shit from your crew and give it back to them.
Having a degree does actually help even if it's in basket weaving. It shows you have the discipline to complete something. You have to understand most people they hire never finished high school and are fucking worthless.

youre 5 years too late

it does career wise, but im talking about getting along with your crew.

Maybe for the Bakken, but the Permian basin and eagle Ford are fucking blasting off right now

Yeah, figured as much. Sounds good.
Well, do you know any place better than Bakken or South Texas? I've got two attributes - I work hard, and I don't give a fuck about where I have to go.

OK yes I'm sorry, misunderstood you, yes you're right. Don't come into the job on a high horse because you have one.

dont go to these random states, work offshore rigs. 2 weeks on/2 weeks off but you don't live in dipshit nowhere

go to alaska in may, walk the docks get on a boat. Might make 20k in 3 months. If you can survive that, head north. Join a union get on the north slope 1500/wk takehome to start.

A fair amount of companies in Central America will hire you if you are willing to work long hours. They also pay quite well. Costa Rica is a hotbed right now.

unironically thought about doing this about six years ago but it's oversaturated now with virtually no profit margins

Hahaha, no need to worry about that, I recognize my degree isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Might be something to keep in check regardless.
Not bad for a starting salary, but what do you mean "get on a boat?" We talking oil, or Alaskan Crab Fishing? Big fan of the idea of spending 3 months to see if I'm strong enough for the industry, however.

I also have a meme degree; I have a degree in Elementary Education. Starting pay for a teacher in CA is 40k. 40k in CA is like 15k in the heartland. You can't afford a pot to piss in here with that amount. Plus, it turns out I'm not good at being a teacher.

So would you offer the same advice for me, as you did for OP? How much do you oil field fags make? Will I at least be able to afford an apartment, beer money, an escort every now and again?

And just how hard is the work? I've never worked with my hands.

what's "minimum
wage for oil field"? also, i have a clean CDL with 2yrs exp, what are some options pay wise and do you have any places you'd suggest i start?

I made 65k last year and that's pretty low for the oil field. With a clean CDL and experience you've got pick of the litter. Do you want to do some manual labor or strictly drive?

which pays more?

So, getting a CDL - how does that process go? Seems like the more reasonable option given my circumstances.

summertime is salmon fishing. If you can work on a fishing boat you can do any job. The key thing, that most larping biztards wont tell you, is to show up in person. If you dont have extensive experience and personal references in either industry you will never get hired.

borrow somebodys rig and take the drive test, or pay 2-5k for cdl school

without experience youll never get hired unless you show up in person ready to work i mean

See
And the work is almost a meme. My experience is mainly in fracturing and surrounding services and I can tell you 90% of the time you're on cruise control. A couple days a month suck major dick because you're dealing with iron and hammers, but the rest of the time it's easy. If you've literally never worked with your hands (I hadn't when I started) then it will seem tough at first but after a month or two it's nothing. It's not like working a drill rig or doing roofing or some shit. Way easier.
Depends again. Hauling crude oil (hazmat) can make you major major dollars, but it's tough running. Hauling frac sand makes decent money and is pretty chill. My job is kind of a hybrid and I like it, but I could be making more.
If you get hired where I work (halli) they will pay for your CDL on the condition you work for them for a year. It's a sweet deal, because it's a good school. After a year you can fuck off and you have a free CDL

>So, getting a CDL - how does that process go?
not that user, but i have one so i figured i'd answer. basically, you have to go to a school. can take anywhere from 4-16 weeks and can vary in how good they actually are. but they prep you for the DMV test and most schools administer it there. once you pass, you get your license.

thanks for the info

Also I should add 65k here in Texas is comparable to at least double that in Cali. I know what you're talking about, my sister is in Irvine and pays 1700 a month for a sub 1k sqft apartment kek. I've got a 4 bedroom house and pay 1400.

Compared to the normal test, how is it?

Also, joining for a year to get them to pay sounds nice, less because I need the cash, more because I need the experience.

As an aside - why the fuck wasn't I told that I could make tons of dosh doing actual work in high school? Why the fuck did I get memed into the University scam?

>non-oil fag

What is a CDL? I tried googling it but nothing came up explaining it.

>why did I get memed into a university
(((who))) knows?

Commercial drivers license. 18 wheelers.

Also if by normal test you mean a 4 wheeler car, then the test itself is basically the same, just in an 18 wheeler and less forgiveness. Still though it's pretty hard to fail if you've been trained right. 18 wheelers are really not that hard to drive

>I've got a 4 bedroom house and pay 1400.

Jesus. Looks like the American dream is still alive over there. I feel like a tool studying my ass off for four years, so I can barely afford a studio 800 sq ft apartment with no disposable income. Fuck CA.

Hey is it true that you guys don't pay state income tax, so you get to also keep more of your check?

I'm about just ready to pack my bags for TX.

Come on down friend. Yes it's true we do not pay state tax out of income, we pay sales tax on items purchased, think it's 0.08%.

Honestly if you don't mind the mexicans (and our Mexicans are way better than your Mexicans because they're tejanos and actually pretty chill, memes aside) then I really don't understand why anyone would live in any other state tbqh

>18 wheelers are really not that hard to drive
this is true if you have good spatial awareness and are not a brain let. but so many people that drive them are ridiculous. i lmao everyday at something someone did

Thank you for the warm invitation, friendo. Once I relocate, I'll dress the part too: 50 gallon hat, belt buckle, and open carry.

texas is too small for me

my favorite state in which i drive was TX and i liked the people i met. i may move there

I'd kill myself before moving to bumfuck nowhere, good luck spending your time with illiterate hillbillies

Yep, 100% spot on. I'll put it this way, if you're really fucking bad at fps vidya and can maintain a positive k/d then you will literally get a 100 on your CDL test. And I'm 100% serious about that.
Forgot the cowboy boots and wranglers friendo :^)
Alaska fags please get out. You don't even exist outside the matrix.
I've lived in several different states and always end up back here. It's really great if you don't live in a major city, even then the cities aren't that bad compared to most other states.
Your narrow mind is going to keep you from so many great experiences user.

Bakken is hiring. Many mudlogging jobs don't require college education even. There are often job fairs held in Williston and Dickinson where it's all basically blue collar jobs. Roustabout is something to consider as well. Oil is picking up and rig count is rising so there is a chance they will start to accept anyone with a working pair of hands.

Can I get any of these jobs up in the Midwest?

Wait what? No taxes?

Is there oil in the Midwest? You have to go where the oil is.
No state tax. We pay sales tax. So like for instance I pay no state tax when cashing out crypto. Still get rekt by uncle Sam though.

So which states have oil right now? I heard something in WV

Yes WV and Penn have some. So do lots of states, but you want to go where there's a lot of it. That basically leaves Texas, Alaska, Dakotas. Louisiana and Arkansas have some too just not the major shales.

you can find steady work in WV PA OH and the shale gas they have there isn't running out for the next 50 years

You're probably right I had forgotten about gas wells. Down here we just burn the gas off

for oil its where its located at the field or oklahoma city, denver, and houston.

Big fields are Permian, Eagle Ford, Bakken, Powder River, Bakers Field region, Marcellus.

Goto Fort McMurray faggot.

I'm getting degree in chemical engineering concentration in fluid flow. What company will hire me with no experience necessary?

produced water treatment is huge. reinject that shit and make loads of cash. Sad part is you have to live in north dakota.

Have fun being a slave to the kikes, user
