It was for a mac 'n cheese gratin. You need to relax. I know it's hard understanding how to cook, but there's a method to the madness. Maybe you'll get it after a few more years... maybe... You need a certain amount of moisture for the gratin because it requires baking to brown the topping. Otherwise it just dries out completely.
I think he was talking about the amount of water that you used to boil the macaroni. It seemed like there was too little in there, which can make for clumped pasta. Also
