/ibg/ - immersion blender general

Convince me to/not to buy this bad boy.

Can the chopper attachment be used to make hummus? Baba ganoush? Conceivably something that requires careful emulsification, such as garlic sauce?

>$10 more for a worse color
fuck you amazon

>Convince me to/not to buy this bad boy.
I will not, everyone needs one.

Don't buy that sad boy.

I use an $800 immersion blender where I work and it still can't make decent hummus.

It does make good emulsions, that's about it. You literally can't fuck up a roux-based sauce. Don't expect it to work like a blender though, it certainly is not as versatile.

Immersion blenders are great, but I'd buy one without the whisk attachement. It's kinda useless in my opinion, and it can save you some cash to ditch it.

The mini food processor thing won't make tahini. But if you buy that part you can make hummus. I found that mini food processor to be super useful for all sorts of things.

look at the chopper attachment in the picture. you don't think you can make hummus with that? why not?

I already have a nutribullet pro, but my girlfriend doesn't want to use it to make smoothies anymore because it's so loud and our neighbors have a baby. Is this a lot quieter? Can it make smoothies if we thaw the shit first?

Really just wondering if it's actually useful for anything other than soups...The chopper attachment is my main reason for wanting to buy this one. Otherwise I could just buy a $26 immersion blender and a $26 food processor...maybe that's a better idea?

>The mini food processor thing won't make tahini. But if you buy that part you can make hummus. I found that mini food processor to be super useful for all sorts of things.

Already bought the tahini :) we have lots of international markets here so i'd probably just buy stuff like that commonly rather than making it myself. What other all sorts of things do you make? I'm very poor so this is a huge purchase for me :\

I want to make my gf butternut squash soups and smoothies, and i want to make middle eastern foods

I bought that exact same set up for the exact same price a decade ago on sale from Macy's and it's still going strong. The attachments aren't going to do any heavy lifting, but as long as you understand that, it's a decent product.

I didn't say you couldn't make hummus, I said you couldn't make decent hummus.

the hummus i could conceivably make would cost like 50 cents for the same amount that costs 5 dollars at the store. that's the point..it doesn't have to be amazing

can you make hummus with just the blender or do you use the chopper though? whats the technique?

I've made hummus a bunch of times and it's not really worth it price wise.

You can use just the blender, but it won't ever get really smooth. You'll have to mash it around a lot because the blades create air pockets and won't circulate something that thick.

using a blender is too much work, get a food processor

We have this at home and I can tell you that it won't make hummus or babba gannush at all.

However, it will make amazing creme and potage, the whisk is good for breaking eggs if you give it enough time and the chopper is great for onions, garlic, dried tomatoes and other small things

buhhhh. looks like what i really need more is a food processor

i dunno though i've always avoided buying them because they seem useless

you can make hummus with it. it just won't be very good hummus.

start by blending liquids and slowly adding garbanzo beans. at the end you're mostly going to be mashing it. it will be gritty.

>you can use just the blender, but it won't ever get really smooth

I've worked in the restaurant industry for quite a few years and had my opinions, and then I just visited my mom for the weekend and tried her $300 Vitamix. It's literally a small scale Robotcoupe. I made a couple batches of hummus, some dressing, sauces, soup, and just threw a bunch of shit in until it was cooked because I was told it could do that...

Seriously though, that thing is is a blender and it fucking destroys. If you go to make hummus in a Vitamix I'd suggest chilling your chickpeas first, as that thing will fucking destroy.

I'm talking about an immersion blender.

Incidentally I'd just like to brag that I have two 24" 1.8 hp Robotcoupe immersion blenders and biggest Robotcoupe processer that they make. I use a potato ricer attachment with that to make perfect hummus. It's pretty nice.

So is the general consensus that I should get a $25 immersion and a $25 food processor if I want to make things like hummus in addition to soups and etc?

i hate to have more clutter but i'm really thinking of making things like garlic sauce that need oil added during mixing to emulsify...seems like the classic food processor setup is ideal for that

Put earplugs in and do it under a thick blanket, it'll make it a lot less loud

Youve worked in the restaurant industry how long and you still cant tell the difference between a blender and food processor?

Theyre two different things for different purposes

a vitamix is a blender. just has a bigger engine. shit will turn your hand into liquid if you stick it in there, it's nuts.

>reading comprehension

So, I ordered the cuisinart smart stick. The basic 26 dollar version, without attachments.

Favorite recipes? Particularly interested in savory soups for winter.

be a man maybe and tell your girlfriend to fuck off for literally 20 seconds until you're done.

thanks. she's the one who uses it, however. I don't know how to react if I told her she was now required to make smoothies no matter what.

If you own a proper blender, is there any reason to use an immersion blender instead?

>has to make smoothies like he's reading porn and hiding it from his parents

Try blending 10+ quarts of hot soup in a stand blender, a huge pain in the ass

i dont think the motor has enough power to make hummus, but i could be wrong, food processors arent too expensive though
