No,its a from of filling mostly abandoned but still used in poor/third world countries because its cheap like $5 per filling.
As of right now nano composites are the best,they the cost around 6 times as the amalgam,are hard as a diamond and have the same esthetic as your natural teeth.
Pretty much perfect if they can afford $30 filling.

Amalgam costs me $100 a filling and that's with insurance.
Heck, I've had a broken two for two years because it would cost me $400 with insurance... and that's on top of the 10 fillings I require as well.

That will tell me if is up for replacing.Modern amalgams come pre-packed and the mixture is perfect.Only hand mixes are the problem.
They last up to a lifetime and unless you have problems with the tooth or its in the visible area you should be ok and save your money.

I don't know the system in America but amalgam fillings in europe/eastern europe are the lowest of the low tier and dirt cheap.

Oh, well here in America the dental, health and psychiatric system(s) is(are) mainly a tax scam run by psychopaths with a great PR team.
A band aid at Cook County Hospital [the hospital ER show is based on] runs you about $6, $8 if a nurse applies it, $10 if she rubs alcohol on the area first.

Anyway dental tourism exist for a reason,I have colleagues that work near the borders and make good money from it.
One organized trip for you guys and you can solve all your dental problems for less then a grand plus you will visit a place.
I don't see how this haven't picked up in the states,the quality of workmanship is equal more or less everywhere and its up to the doctor to implement highest hygienic standards so everything goes smooth.

Are you sure I'm fine? Now that I think about it, when I watch foreign (first world country) TV shows, I never see fillings. Whenever a character gets a cavity, they get their teeth pulled. And I've only seen ONE character who had a visually artificial (gold in this case) tooth.

Gold as a material is useless these days,any benefits(something called good marginal closure between the material and tooth substance like enamel or dentin) from it are far surpassed with modern material and techniques.
Even if gold still have use in dental crowns making in certain techniques which i think are also abandoned there there is not much use of it today.
As for esthetics some people like to have gold tooth but here only old people have them because it was the material at hand that worked the best for their time.

No. There's no noticeable change in skull structure from teeth shifting via braces. The amount of skull morphing necessary to even make contact with the brain inside of the cranial cavity is very significant, and this doesn't happen aside from acute trauma, bone growths, etc.

In regards to hospitals, especially the ER, they have huge costs that are not covered by anything, which they need to recoup by high prices.

Normal braces just work on the teeth, but if you have an over/under bite they can also be made with hooks that hold rubber bands which slowly realign your jaw over a couple years.
