Hey Veeky Forums

Hey Veeky Forums.
Jokes aside, what are the chances of a major happening occuring in our lifetimes? By that, I mean things like very destructive wars, terrorists/rogue states using WMDs, major tensions between world powers, and such.

I read a lot of think tank and statistical reports on the topic, but there seems to be no consensus.

Jokes aside, none. Only "happenings" will be in the Middle East or Turkey-Kurd civil war (which is already underway in some ways). Dictators are those who change the course of history significantly. Terrorist attacks are irrelevant and forgotten in the long-term. Turkey and China will be the source of any increasing tensions in the coming years, but there will be no major happening as /pol/ always "predicts" (in our lifetimes at least). The world is ruled by plutocracy now, and war/conflict is not at the top of the priority list.

>The world is ruled by plutocracy now, and war/conflict is not at the top of the priority list.

I'm afraid this isn't how geopolitics work.

Geopolitics has a wide range of meanings. You might want to narrow down the point you're trying to make?

As for the picture, ideologies/Royal feuds are anachronistic notions nowadays, in the wake of the 2 World Wars that reminded us how bad things can get. We're far away from that path.

Funny how the top of the picture looks like Germany's flag.

Indeed it is happening, it is too late, they can't stop it, they kinda asked for it and they could have prevented it.

It is not yet over though, so that's pretty accurate.

R.I.P. Germany

This has nothing to do with science. We can predict a lot of things but the brains of 7 billion people at once is still too much.

But if you want to be concerned about something serious: global warming. It's still exponentially rising. If the permafrost melts(and it is melting rapidly) billions of tons of methane will escape.

By the way: I dont care about national policies but if somebody like Trump, who claims it's a hoax, gets in power, really really bad shit is gonna happen. Not to mention we already have 2 retards leading Russia and Turkey.

Overpopulation, topsoil erosion, pollution, and resource depletion are more likely to seriously affect us in our livetimes.
Global warming is a serious threat, but in the short term it isn't as serious as the above, which can actually drastically endanger our economy.

Also, a piece of advice:
Parroting some popsci meme "scientist" doesn't make you sound smart.

If I wanted to sound smart, than you definitely want to sound smart. You're literally agreeing with what I said but you add more subjects as if I wouldn't agree with them. Something a 7 year old would do without any social capabilities.

So a little piece of advice for you mister:
Obviously global warming isn't our only issue, kid. I was just trying to make clear to OP that this isn't the place for these kind of debates. Because /pol/ threads like these attract the typical smart-ass know-it-all like you who think they're better than everybody else. You're the type of guy that wouldn't use Newton's laws because they get used by "newfags on 4ch4nzz".

"The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."
Donald J. Trump, 2016

Happenings work like this:

Is your life shit?
>Yes
>No

When enough answer yes (about 30% of young working men), It's Happening.

On the internet you are getting an biased sample, because it tends to attract losers and brainlets whose personal lives are a clusterfuck of sadness so they would love the world to end, so they can put on their go bags and bug out and survive the apocalypse with their youtube skills. Hey who knows, maybe they will find some cute lonely girls along the way and save their lives and get some reward sex.

In the real world, outside, most people are doing fine. The stockmarket recovered, they were unemployed for 6-8 months during 2008 but have solid new jobs now, interest rates are low, consumption is normal, they are happy and content.

Now this political cycle it's just a media circus show. Conservatives want their own Obama moment where they elect their own Hope and Change guy in Trump, Liberals want to elect a woman. Hillary will win something like 60-40 it wil be a bloodbath. The media NEEDS you to think it will be a very close race, so they have to pump out as much Trump content as possible because it will keep you watching in suspense, can Trump really do it? Can he defeat the politicians? Tune in next month, and so on.

Can another crash happen? The only thing incredibly overvalued worldwide right now is property, but the people buying real estate are doing it with a lot of money down and secure jobs. Energy is incredibly oversold and there is downward pressure on mining and gas companies, it affected Venezuela and Russia both of which are collapsing, but Saudi and the rest of OPEC seem fine.

Happenings happen all the time in shitty countries. They tend to not happen in developed countries, because we have infrastructure and wealth. Remember during the height of the 2008-9 bubble bursting, a lot of baby boomers made out like bandits buying dozens of cheap condos and houses and then flipping for 100%+ return.
