Hey Veeky Forums

Hey Veeky Forums.
Jokes aside, what are the chances of a major happening occuring in our lifetimes? By that, I mean things like very destructive wars, terrorists/rogue states using WMDs, major tensions between world powers, and such.

I read a lot of think tank and statistical reports on the topic, but there seems to be no consensus.

Jokes aside, none. Only "happenings" will be in the Middle East or Turkey-Kurd civil war (which is already underway in some ways). Dictators are those who change the course of history significantly. Terrorist attacks are irrelevant and forgotten in the long-term. Turkey and China will be the source of any increasing tensions in the coming years, but there will be no major happening as /pol/ always "predicts" (in our lifetimes at least). The world is ruled by plutocracy now, and war/conflict is not at the top of the priority list.

>The world is ruled by plutocracy now, and war/conflict is not at the top of the priority list.

I'm afraid this isn't how geopolitics work.

Geopolitics has a wide range of meanings. You might want to narrow down the point you're trying to make?

As for the picture, ideologies/Royal feuds are anachronistic notions nowadays, in the wake of the 2 World Wars that reminded us how bad things can get. We're far away from that path.

Funny how the top of the picture looks like Germany's flag.

Indeed it is happening, it is too late, they can't stop it, they kinda asked for it and they could have prevented it.

It is not yet over though, so that's pretty accurate.

R.I.P. Germany

This has nothing to do with science. We can predict a lot of things but the brains of 7 billion people at once is still too much.

But if you want to be concerned about something serious: global warming. It's still exponentially rising. If the permafrost melts(and it is melting rapidly) billions of tons of methane will escape.

By the way: I dont care about national policies but if somebody like Trump, who claims it's a hoax, gets in power, really really bad shit is gonna happen. Not to mention we already have 2 retards leading Russia and Turkey.

Overpopulation, topsoil erosion, pollution, and resource depletion are more likely to seriously affect us in our livetimes.
Global warming is a serious threat, but in the short term it isn't as serious as the above, which can actually drastically endanger our economy.

Also, a piece of advice:
Parroting some popsci meme "scientist" doesn't make you sound smart.

If I wanted to sound smart, than you definitely want to sound smart. You're literally agreeing with what I said but you add more subjects as if I wouldn't agree with them. Something a 7 year old would do without any social capabilities.

So a little piece of advice for you mister:
Obviously global warming isn't our only issue, kid. I was just trying to make clear to OP that this isn't the place for these kind of debates. Because /pol/ threads like these attract the typical smart-ass know-it-all like you who think they're better than everybody else. You're the type of guy that wouldn't use Newton's laws because they get used by "newfags on 4ch4nzz".

"The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."
Donald J. Trump, 2016

Happenings work like this:

Is your life shit?
>Yes
>No

When enough answer yes (about 30% of young working men), It's Happening.

On the internet you are getting an biased sample, because it tends to attract losers and brainlets whose personal lives are a clusterfuck of sadness so they would love the world to end, so they can put on their go bags and bug out and survive the apocalypse with their youtube skills. Hey who knows, maybe they will find some cute lonely girls along the way and save their lives and get some reward sex.

In the real world, outside, most people are doing fine. The stockmarket recovered, they were unemployed for 6-8 months during 2008 but have solid new jobs now, interest rates are low, consumption is normal, they are happy and content.

Now this political cycle it's just a media circus show. Conservatives want their own Obama moment where they elect their own Hope and Change guy in Trump, Liberals want to elect a woman. Hillary will win something like 60-40 it wil be a bloodbath. The media NEEDS you to think it will be a very close race, so they have to pump out as much Trump content as possible because it will keep you watching in suspense, can Trump really do it? Can he defeat the politicians? Tune in next month, and so on.

Can another crash happen? The only thing incredibly overvalued worldwide right now is property, but the people buying real estate are doing it with a lot of money down and secure jobs. Energy is incredibly oversold and there is downward pressure on mining and gas companies, it affected Venezuela and Russia both of which are collapsing, but Saudi and the rest of OPEC seem fine.

Happenings happen all the time in shitty countries. They tend to not happen in developed countries, because we have infrastructure and wealth. Remember during the height of the 2008-9 bubble bursting, a lot of baby boomers made out like bandits buying dozens of cheap condos and houses and then flipping for 100%+ return.

what made you think that it isn't already happening?

Not only are you parroting meme "scientists", but you're also so butthurt that you're making typos in your reply.
Way to damage control.

I responded to your post because you only listed global warming as something to be concerned about, even though there are far more important issues. Get your priorities straight.

A recession isn't really a happening.
You have a biased spoiled 1st worlder worldview. Have you seen poverty? Like, real poverty? Have you seen death? Have you witnessed any shootings? Have you witnessed a glimpse of the remainders of a dead Empire? ...the remainders and legacy of which we are yet to know? In the rubble of this empire lie deadly weapons, and the people of these lands may use them should they feel paranoid for one reason or another... for the paranoia was cultivated in them by the rulers of the dead Empire, through endless lies. It may be during the reign of the next tyrant of these lands or one, or two, or more tyrants later that we will see the true face of the human vice and folly.

>world war 1
>The war to end all wars
is this the most ironic thing ever?

>implying Putin isn't the best politician in the world right now, literally twisting the arms of every country

Russia doesn't care about global warming. Why should it? It's very good for them, finally going to make all that land actually usable without any need for special technology

You're an idiot and sound brainwashed.

All the election models which have a very high degree of accuracy historically, have Trump winning at about a 98% certainty.

nypost.com/2016/02/25/get-ready-for-president-trump-says-election-whiz-whos-scary-accurate/

Yeah dude I grew up in Bosnia during the war, I was 8 years old when I saw a man brain another man to death with a rock because he wanted his can of spam. People did really fucked up things when they got hungry.

The conditions in the states are nowhere near the level of civil war, you need to relax, take a deep breath, go outside and think about what level of natural disaster or foreign attack or internal collapse would be required to stop delivering food across the nation.

Most of what you typed was paranoid gibberish, have you see a mental health professional in the past year? Talking about these emotions might be healthy, a normal person with a stable life doesn't tend to say the things you said without serious evidence.

Here are some hints society is collapsing:

>Innocent people start getting arrested and there are open riots and murders in the streets

>There are shortages of basic goods and energy prices rise suddenly

>Politicians make public statements that there is nothing to worry about

>Violence between citizens increases as desperate or greedy people see their opportunity to steal rape and murder.

>Military patrols the streets and curfew is implemented

>Banks stop working and money becomes scarce in the beginning, then useless later on

Some of that is happening right now in Venezuela. Is it happening in America? I must have missed it. Is Walmart turning customers away? Is Obama declaring a state of national emergency? Did your bank reject your withdrawal? Did your employer not pay your monthly salary?

Total - 13,562,472 Clinton
Total- 10,308,312 Sanders
Total - 11,928,577 Trump

Trump has to convert more than 20% of Sanders' base to win in the general election. They all hate Trump and are actively protesting his rallies and assaulting his supporters. If Sanders endorses Hillary she wins by a massive landslide. If he contests the convention and people protest and the National Guard gets called in like in 68 and the party implodes then Hillary still wins.

But it's okay because you prefaced it by calling me a brainwashed idiot.

No, no, I'm SURE the vast majority of employed Americans will pick a braggadocios billionaire who wants to close borders and be tough on China over an experience politician and diplomat who will enact policies that are a continuation of the past 8 years, which has seen them better off that before.

>One guy says something I agree with
>Let me ignore all the other sources which agree Trump will struggle vs either Hillary or Sanders

It's a c-c-conspiracy guys I promise! They're stealing it from Trump! The media is biased!

Except all the media has spent 6 months rabidly promoting Trump in the hopes they can convince people like you that it will be a close race and you should follow it as closely as possible, because you want to be informed don't you?

Did you know before today that Clinton had 1.5 million more votes than Trump?

I understand that politics makes people irrational, but for the life of me I can't understand why anyone on Veeky Forums would get affected by the group think. I love Donald Trump, the guy is mesmerizing and hilarious. I think there's lots of smoke around Clinton and the scandals surrounding her, she's a woman, she'll get a pass. I think Bernie is just the unfunny socialist version of Trump, lots of promise no actual plan to get there.

Look at it how most people would: Clinton is corrupt, but Trump went bankrupt. I don't want another economic crisis, go with experience.

I'd rather die than give America up to the Beaners.

Why are you even bringing up the United States, you spoiled 1st worlder? I'm referring to the post-Soviet space. The nukes can be used, even if in a limited and tactical manner, in the near future, judging by the political situation there. I know that because I am a citizen of the RF and regularly watch the news.

Putin won't ever do it. But the next leaders, who will be hard line nationalists, likely will. It will probably happen during an escalation with NATO, over stuff like annexing lands from the Baltics/other land grabs.

A happening in the US won't happen. But a happening in the world (yes, there are actually life outside the US) as a whole is simply inevitable. Be it a small scale use of nuclear weaponry, or major tensions between military powers.

People in the RF are very upset and militarized. Just follow its politics.

And it would be foolish to claim that there will be no major conflicts soon. It's a basic statistic fact that there will be.

>Trump went bankrupt

If you'd ever run a business, you'd know there's nothing wrong with declaring bankruptcy, it's a logical move to make in certain circumstances. It would prove even worse for him if he rode those few companies that did claim bankruptcy straight into the ground, just hoping for the best instead of cutting losses and moving on.

In about 15 years a meteor is gonna hit this planet, and in 100 years all the methane underwater is gonna go kaboom.

> In about 15 years a meteor is gonna hit this planet
wat

explain that to the general American voter, good luck.

Because OP is probably asking about the States. I'm sorry you live in a shithole, what do you want me to say? You don't really matter, lame duck President, no economic power to wage a war.

I don't understand why you slavs get so butthurt over being ignored. You fucking lost WW3 and never recovered. There's more people living in Africa, but who gives a shit about those miserable countries.

USA
Germany
UK
Japan
China
South Korea
India
OPEC

Those are the relevant countries in the world, Russia is just a gas exporter with no ability to defend it's borders let alone expand. Crimea annexed itself, don't even start with that shit.

The moment Russia launches missiles against the west you will be destroyed by catastrophic American retaliation in defense of their NATO allies etc. Your army will capitulate and roll over faster than the Iraqi's did. Can your country withstand 3000 missile strikes in 48 hours? You won't be able to fire back, you are surrounded by US anti-missile defense bases, your nukes will get shot down over your own territory, China will not assist you.

In what fantasy scenario will any Russian leader ever suicide his entire people? If such a person even got a wiff of power in the Kremlin he would get assassinated by the CIA before he could wipe his ass. The CIA working with the FSB that is.

Nobody wants war anymore, trade is good for business.

Why are you generalizing an entire huge group of people?

>no economic power to wage a war

Russia has enough nukes to destroy the entire world several times. Not only that, but the ICBM and nuclear rocketry it has easily evades most anti-missile shields (which aren't effective anyway).
And Nazi Germany had a very shit economy before the war, so that isn't really a good argument. If nationalists come to power, things will be different - they will bolster the military and arms spending which will change the economic situation, even if at great costs.

Your type of thinking makes the local nationalists very mad, and they will cry for war, and even a limited nuclear exchange when such an opportunity presents.
And the notion that a limited nuclear exchange will result in an all out nuclear Armageddon is idiotic at best. It would be more of a tit for tat.

I agree that the president is shit, though.
Russia needs a Social Democrat, but sadly, the reality is that idiotic nationalists will come to power.

>because op is probably asking about the states

He most likely wasn't, if you cared to read the OP.

> mfw the /pol/ i always wished, but never got.

Overpopulation isn't really that huge of a problem.

Population growth has slowed to almost zero or even negative rates in many developed countries.

Even the population growth of the developing world has slowed considerable in the past decades.

The only countries that are seeing very high fertility rates are backward ass countries such as Ethiopia.
