If you are not working on

If you are not working on

- artificial general intelligence
- solving power centralisation

you are probably wasting your time and killing us all. Why?

- the chances for a singularity are too far above zero to not pursue them, but not close enough to one to just sit back and relax.
- it is very possible that the people controlling this superweapon will decide that making everyone immortal is not really worth it and claim olympus for themselves.

Tell me why I'm wrong or adjust your life accordingly now.

...

>I have nothing to contribute but u r stuped

Then, what are you gonna do, little boy?

If you start a propaganda campaign, different from those crazy believers, maybe you will succeed in that.

> the chances for a singularity are too far above zero to not pursue them
If by above zero you mean zero.

>propaganda
This is what I am doing - part time getting up to date on the research, part time talking to people about it. I was convinced and hence think you should be too. I understand that due to mental biases like the follow-the-herd-fallacy or phlegmatism this is hard, but someone browsing a science and math board should be able to do it.

>little boy
keep your derogatory terms.

I think the chances are way above zero for the following reasons:

- unprecedented computing power available to humanity
- AI is a mature research area - narrow AI has already arrived in industry (industry!)

I know it is unkomfortable to accept, but look at it like this: our culture is a hedonistic shithole. The biggest problems people seem to have is not getting laid and working a purposeless job. Actually fighting for your life with math might give you this purpose and put your overblown monkey penis-using instincts back into it's proper proportions. And oh, "what if we tore down our masters and learned the most powerful magicks available right now for nothing??"

dude heat death lmao. all I want to do is bust some fat nuts in some stacies.

I'm getting drunk at 10 am, does that count?

>heat death
dude nirvana fallacy.

also, inb4
> yeah AI will come so I will study it hard sell out make phat moneyz and laugh down upon yall from olypmus
Not going to work. The chances that you will end up as the single most powerful being are naught and you know it. The alternative is that someone else will win and dominate you like everyone else. So what do we do? We find a nash equilibrium where noone gets fucked and solve scarcity together.

Getting drunk counts as flinching away from the truth. Take acid instead if you need receation. Looking your demons in the eye will be painful but you will be the better man you want to be afterwards instead of the death-wishing worm you seem to be right now.

>- unprecedented computing power available to humanity

Too bad that computing time is only used for weather forecast, meme gaming, furry simulations and hadron crashtests.

Sounds like the plot to a video game.

I'd rather keep it real and work on my biotech thesis so I can send my future kids to college, thanks

>Too bad that computing time is only used for shit

This is part of the problem, yes. But still solvable more easily than inventing and building it from scratch. Also, you don't need all the computing power right now, the technology is enough. How can we get it? From the top of my head

- hacking
- crowdfunding (money and unused hardware, seti style)
- convincing rich people that they will neither win it all nor are safe from death
- startups who can monetize partial AGIs

>Sounds like the plot to a video game
So you are arguing that it is actually something interesting? Don't make the mistake of assuming this general sense of the world being a boring depressing shithole is the only state we can live in. Boomers built this vain culture, we can build a new one. The future is ours, not theirs.

>biotech thesis
well at least you work on something partially useful. Maybe do some research on AI though still, what we already have might be useful for you.

> future kids
how about investing in your own immortality instead, and then have kids?

>college
You won't have to spend money if we tear the masters down; here in Germany it is already free. Oh I forgot, they made socialism a dirty word in your county.

What exactly are you able to do to resolve those problems? Please do not tell me you are some "ideas guy" and do not know shit about computers, programming or communication. Also probably only have some political education straight out of /pol/.

Actually talented people do not even know how to resolve the problem of the gap between memory and computational speeds and you are coming to Veeky Forums with your propositions.

>Please do not tell me you are some "ideas guy" and do not know shit about computers, programming or communication.
I'm surprised this wasn't apparent to you, what with OP unironically throwing the word "singularity" in his every post.

Who funds this Cult of the Flat Mind?

Almost done with my master's in compsci, planning to do a phd on the topic afterwards. If there are positions where you don't just do busywork.

But this does not matter, even if I were some 12yr old kid you still had to adress my actual points instead of ad hominemming and strawmanning this hard. Which you did not.

The other thing I am trying to do about it is trying to convince smarter and more competent people to help as well as fight the meme that "talent" is a thing and you have to have been a nerd in school in order to contribute. Everyone can learn everything if they put their mind to it.

>every post
>OP only
fuck off.

> Cult of the Flat Mind
Nice name. Funding, I don't know. I listed some possibilites in . What would also a possibility is just work parttime and research/form neccessary social structures in your spare time. I want to stress that this is an anarchistic process, and demanding a full action plan before joining is not feasible. Think and organize for yourself.

>keep your derogatory terms
No.
Open a facebook page or something.

facebook is cancer though and should die quickly.

>If you are not working on
>- artificial general intelligence
>- solving power centralisation

Those are two diametrically opposed goals. Power has an effect of snow-balling. Whoever has the most computational power to run an AI will have the most power by far. And they'll use that power to retain their power.

Based Kaczynski was right.

Yes, I am aware of that; this is part of the problem. If the AI would be some kind of distributed system though we could democratize it's control easier; maybe something something smart contracts...

So you think you can succeed just shitposting on Veeky Forums?

>Implying this is the only thing I do
>Implying I am the only one

It's a fucking bait post so you can explain further what you are doing you stupid brainlet.

Why am I killing us all?
So I don't have to worry about you making another bullshit thread like this one.

I don't feel like answering to that tone :^)

inb4 lol then I am not doing what is best for both of us in protest
