There's nothing to exploit out there yet, to mine on the moon for example, you'll not only need to get all of the equipment there but also deal with the fact that your workers will be in a vacuum and subject to the solar wind while they're working on the surface. Your drill will have to have some new mechanism to dump heat because you can't cool it with water, it would boil, as would your lubricants. On top of this your miners will need a steady supply of food, air, and water, while that's easy to do it's exorbitantly expensive.

Exploitation of resources in space is not financially viable yet.

If they were that willing to do so, then someone probably would have done it by now. The technology certainly exists, but there just isn't a demand for trips to the moon. Sure a few superrich people could do it, but a couple million dollar tickets isn't going to cover the cost of launching the vehicle, setting up a sustainable base, constantly shipping air, water, and food to that base, and it certainly wouldn't cover replacing the vehicle or the base should something happen to them.
