It seems that I was correct. Here is a much better view of the site.

Notice that although the plaque has been moved (this photo is dated 2012), the old-time bridge and the site are still clearly the same. You can see it in the arch of the bridge, the bricks right below the plaque in this version, the bend of the ground there, that infrastructure thing in the distance "under" the bridge in both photos, both of which seem fairly recent.

This isn't a discovery ABOUT quaternions, this is the rule that lead to quaternions being invented in the first place. People had tried to extend complex numbers to three dimensions and failed, Hamilton realized that skipping to four dimensions would solve it and carved ijk = -1 on a stone.

This user is right, if you don't work on your subject actively it means you are just a guy with a paper saying that your an engineer.
To be a real engineer you need to work on something otherwise everyone reading a science gazette could claim to be a scientist.
