I know people who are "really high IQ" and are failures and people who are average that are successful. Not only that, IQ can vary rapidly and is more indicative of how well you eat and how healthy you are than some innate characteristic.

I feel that there is some truth to them. I've been meaning to find out my IQ for a while but the majority of sites that I've used often ask for a small fee once the test is over. I'm not paying those fuckers just to tell me I'm stupid.

IQ test is basically completely discredited as an accurate measure of aptitude other than for certain types of reasoning skills. It's useful on the low end, because a low enough score will generally correlate with some sort of mental retardation. A very high score will generally correlate with someone whose ability to reason certain kinds of information is very high. In between though, for the vast majority of people, it's pretty much meaningless. Higher scores generally correlate with higher socio-economic status, or at least wealthier parents. There are far too many variables to measure intelligence with such a limited and selective test, and it's hard to even define what we mean by intelligence. Further, people who have high IQs aren't necessary better at many things than people with low IQs, such as spatial reasoning and physical learning.

TLDR: It's pretty much nonsense, and most serious psychologists don't rate it.

IQ resembles educability (book learning skills) well enough it is the de facto tool for filtering gifted students as well. Although not all high IQs are in high position those in high position have high IQs.

High positions correlate with high IQ, and so does high socio-economic status. High socio-economic status leads to high position. Does not prove that it is IQ that was responsible for position.

The ability to learn, of which IQ is a snapshot or rough proxy, is the ability to earn in the modern and modernizing economies of the entire world. your material conditions are the input to your cognitive abilities ie) poors stay poor because they are bad with money or cannot into remunerable skills.
