Can /sci solve a simple equation?

can /sci solve a simple equation?

if a bird travels 20 miles in 120 minutes, how long would it take the bird to travel 6 miles? whats the mph?

10 mph. 36 min

>that pic
isnt 16 the correct answer?

20/5(2*2)
20/5(4)
4(4)
16.........?

i thought common core was supposed to be bullshit

before this thread gets out of hand, it's a shoop. it's sole purpose is to rustle easily trolled jimmies.

fucking retard

20/5*(2*2)
20/5*4
20/20
1

the person who did that should be murdered

this is what i thought as well

impressive

then whats 32 miles in 155 minutes, how long would it take a bird to travel 7 minutes? whats the mph?

miles* not minutes.

I like how you mixed and match order of operations from both interpretations.

Depends on if you treat / as some magical lowest-precedence division operator or as equal to ÷ which has the same precedence as *. I find it fucking stupid to treat / differently, but to each their own.

[eqn]
\begin{aligned}
20 \div 5 (2*2) &= 20 \div 5(4) \\
&= 20 \frac{1}{5} (4) \\
&= 4(4) \\
&= 16
\end{aligned}
[/eqn]

[math]\begin{aligned} \frac{20} {5 (2*2)} &= \frac{20} {5*(4)} \\ &=\frac {20} {20} \\ &= \frac{1}{1} \\ &= 1 \end{aligned}[/math]

distribute u cancer retard
20/5(2*2)
20/10*10
2*10
20

kek

Fuck you. We have a /sqt/ for a reason. We're not here to do your number crunching.

~12,4 mph
he takes 33 min and 54 sec to travel 7 miles

20 miles in 120 minutes = 20 miles in 2 hours = 10 miles per hour
6 miles in X hours = 0.6 hours = 60*0.6 minutes = 36 minutes

Precedence rules say you do anything in parentheses first
So 20 / 5 (4).
Despite "PEMDAS", multiplication and division have equal precedence, so arguably you could say it's either 1 or 16. HOWEVER, I think there's an additional rule of left-to-right precedence, which means the "correct" answer is 16.

My guess would be

Multplication and division share the same priority, and the "proper" method of evaluation is by performing operations from left to right. So your correct answer is 16.

It's 16

t. engi who knows how to put numbers in wolfram alpha without fucking up

/ = ÷
mutiplication and division have equal precedence. at that point it goes from left to right. the answer is 16

pemdas

2*2=4
5*4 =20
20/20=1

the whole joke is that the you shouldn't use the / as a division sign

Excuse me, but why would you be too lazy to clarify what you are trying to say?
