I don't know the technicals behind it but I assume that it is expected due to game theory shit that nodes have better incentive to be honest rather than malicious so the majority should be correct. to overcome this is really expensive as you need essentially half the node power in the network - virtually impossible. the white paper outlines certain methods too like throwing out extreme data values for when an average/mean is needed as data. another really key thing to remember about centralized sources is that sometimes they fail honestly. such as server downtime, honest mistakes in data, attacks, etc. link increases the user's confidence that much more by getting around these issues. plus, link will be cheaper to use.
