quick rundown:
you are trading an instrument known as a perpetual inverse swap contract, each contract costs $1 in bitcoin (at entry price - so as the price rises, contracts cost less satoshis each). you can use up to 100x leverage although i don't recommend 100. people use the bitmex perpetual swap as a pricing instrument and as a way to hedge against downturn, along with an instrument to arbitrage against for funding with futures. if you have enough bitcoin and long swap and short futures, you can collect on the funding each period (~0.01 to 0.2% every 8 hours). you can also take margined positions on altcoin futures.
