Pre-med hate thread

Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm pre med...Oh, uh, yeah I'm a freshman, but yeah, I'm um, going to be a neurosurgeon, but I'm also thinking about family medicine, I haven't decided yet...
Hey...user, whats this? Why did I get 2 points off on this one? What? Oh come on, I know that I needed to use the barometric pressure, but you didn't tell us what it was, how were we supposed to know it? I know I had a week to work on it. Online? Where would the barometric pressure be online? user, please help me out here, I really need to pass this class to keep on the pre-med track...

>mfw physics major and taking biochem just for fun and shitting all over all the premeds in it

I'm not even smart

>mfw at a school famous for medicine
>mfw pre-med is the new pre-business
>mfw every loser who has no clue what to do with his life "is probably gonna go pre-med"

sure kid

>Americans

Its a made up fucking major anyway, I don't understand their mindset.

>Hey...user, whats this? Why did I get 2 points off on this one? What? I experienced this many times as a TA. Profs have told me they had parents of premed students call them and berate/beg them over marks.

Fucking pathetic.

>tfw triple majoring in BioMed Engineering, Psychology, and Neurobiology (will take 5 years and 3 summers but still worth it)
>tfw going to Med School after to become a Neurosurgeon
>tfw going to get my MBA while a Surgeon to open my own Engineering firm where I sell bionic limbs and body parts

>still worth it

you are so stupid

>not worth it by doing an extra year

full ride scholarship fuckboi

you dont get a full ride for however many years you want to stay unless you go to a literal shit school numbnuts

plut psychology is a fucking waste as is neurobiology, ESPECIALLY if youre already doing biomedical engineering, and doubly so if all you want to do is go to med school

what kind of doctor you end up becoming has literally nothing to do with what you did as an undergrad and everything to do with your performance in med school, so taking all those extra courses to "prepare" yourself is useless since youre going to learn the big boy version in med school and residency

not to mention every summer is wasted when you should be doing research or working in a hospital or just having fun, and that extra year is just pointless for the same reason

enjoy pajeet

t. also on a full ride

No shit... My scholarship more than covers my 4 years for my University as it is in my home state. I also live 20 minutes from campus. The undergraduate degrees deal with the business goal afterwards.

Doing biochem for fun as a major, with the intent to go into law, as has been my childhood dream.

Holy fuck the tension of everyone around me is so damn high, especially considering I go to a school famous for the med school/premed track.

I'm more than fine keeping at a consistent 3.4-3.5, and going wherever the wind will take me, the government's paying for school and I'm only really here to study and learn new things, not to compete with these mongrels.

MD-PhD student here, but not from the USA.
I really don't get the American med-school system. Why do they force you to major in something not related to medicine first instead of making Med-school 5-6 years and covering the basic sciences that are needed in the first years like most of the countries in the world?

A person responding with "pre-med" when asked for their major is a retard who won't get in anyway.

Because the Pre-Med major filters out the mouthbreathers who aren't passionate about anything so they think "I'll just go to med school and make lots of money."

It's basically a Business degree

>neurobiology
>waste

Who hurt you, user?

great question

I'm a 1st year at a medical school in California. I went to UCSC and I slacked off in undergrad, mostly on Veeky Forums which I've been frequenting since 2007ish.

All of my colleagues went to UC Berkeley or LA.

Premeds are insufferable, I never called myself a premed. I was a human biology major with an intention of going into medicine.

I sometimes give talks to premeds at UCSC and they're always self-absorbed cunts who think they're smarter than me even though they ask stupid fucking questions that I've already answered during my presentation.

Medicine is really, really cool. It's pretty hard though. You have to be neurotic in some way to want to get into medicine which is unfortunate.

I would say the hardest part is getting in, but fuck it's still hard.

I should really get back to studying, but I'm sick and don't feel like reading about antibiotics.

I wish our system was different, I think it's more about how we want to weed out stupid fuckers. I knew a bunch of premeds who couldn't get past basic chemistry, it's probably a good thing they didn't go to medical school and waste their time.

And then they become a doctor and make $300k a year while you're making $30k as a lab rat.

>implying the neurobiology major at colleges has literally anything to do with neurology

are you stupid? you spend the first three years wasting your time in introductory biology courses that are a fucking insult to intelligence and get a taste of it senior year. Then you actually learn all of it at med school. Neurobiology is just as much of a waste of a major as general biology

Are you suicidal my dude?
You probably go to Northwestern as that is the only school where you can triple major (feasibly) in the US

t. NEET autodidact

is everyone in your cohort an overachiever?

what do you think you will specialise in?

You sound quite bitter. First-hand experience?

I did it at the UofC. Granted, they didn't have a formal way to do it, but I still nailed 3 of them down and got them to recognize it on my transcripts. Just because you can't do stuff like this doesn't mean no one can.

>TA organic chemistry

Fucking goddamn premeds
I can practically smell it. They always stick out with their pretentiousness, arrogance, and their pathetic grades-grubbing. Some of them are at least smart, but the ones I truly despise are the retarded ones.

>struggles with the simple fucking concept of TLC
>still announces her major in that smug tone that makes me want to defecate directly into her mouth

Feels good to TA one of the main premed weeder courses though. Fucking goddamn premeds

Why do you care so much? That's what they have to hold on too, they can't take pride in other things, so let them at least feel good about their major. It doesn't hurt you

I'd say no. There are definitely those that just scream IM GONNA BE A DOCTOR OUTTA MY WAY and try to hurdle the dead as they get 1% extra on something worth nothing in the grand scheme of things. But there are genuinely good people in my class. One guy is 32 and has two kids AND he's going through medical school. Coolest guy in the world, his eyebrows look like Goku's.
One fucker and I were discussing a question with a professor in front of the entire class and he got militant and kept saying "You're wrong, ask any cardiologist and they would say you're wrong!" I was just trying to learn but he didn't want me to succeed. I ended up being right.
It isn't impossible just incredibly time consuming.
I'm leaning towards emergency medicine. But I would be content with internal med as well. I'll have to see what rotations do to me.

What is TLC?
Tables, ladders, chairs?

nevermind, I got it

but biochem is easy faggot

god why are like 90% of the chem majors in my uni pre-meds
I fucking hate everyone in my own department reeeeee

3 Bachelor's degrees is a huge waste of time

Life is a bunch of time and then you die.

>tfw med school MMI in 2 weeks.

Any advice anons? I've done this format in the past for pharmacy school so I'm very familiar with it, but I'd still appreciate your input

>tfw former premed
>now going to law school because I realized that humanities fags are retarded and I'm revolutionizing the field by being able to do basic calculus
the LSAT is a joke

To me they're just obnoxious because they have this really annoying superiority complex about wanting to be a doctor for all the wrong reasons and have no idea what they're getting into.

They also are ALWAYS some variant of Bio major which isn't required for med school and are the most generic people who I know will be shot down at med school interviews.

I love this though
>Pre-med fags take up all the spots to assist with university research as undergrads
>Do this by lying
>People who actually want to be biologists are left in the dust
>Professors discover the ruse
>Advisers and professors actively witch hunt pre-med cucks
>Professor tells me that despite being associated with botany he's constantly asked about med school shit from pre-med fags

Makes me glad that all I have to deal with is pre-law guys as a Bio Anthro major.

yes actually, was a molecular bio major for two years and hated every minute of it because it was fucking boring and was taught to the lowest common denominator cookie cutter premed. total waste of time, and then people come around and try to say it's a worthwhile major when it is minimally intellectually stimulating

2nd year med student. pre med are the most self entitled cunts, literally feel like they are entitled to be doctors without putting in the hard work.

> You have to be neurotic in some way to want to get into medicine which is unfortunate.
Agreed. The actual content isn't too difficult but the discipline required is draining. Plus you gotta sacrifice social life because you wont have much time to see people

>To me they're just obnoxious because they have this really annoying superiority complex about wanting to be a doctor for all the wrong reasons and have no idea what they're getting into.
Fucking this. They just want to do it for the status and money. Their insincerity of actually having a passion for biology and medicine is what gets me. Thankfully these people rarely make it

what is the science behind side boobs? why are they soo attractive?

Is premed biochem different from biochem they do in med schools in US?

2nd year med school fag who has no desire to be super rich and no interest in biology or medicine. How should I kill myself?

That's basically every PhD program in science. I think that the conceptual rigor and long hours of med school are a little exaggerated in the broader context of graduate work.

>You probably go to Northwestern as that is the only school where you can triple major (feasibly) in the US

Literally what

I know someone who triple majored at a good school that isn't Northwestern. He even graduated in 4 years.

>going to law school
>2016

Have fun having no job. My friend graduated last year from a top-15 law school. More than 50% of his class still has no job in the field.

I enjoyed watching one after another pre med realize they don't have what it takes when I was an undergrad. I enjoyed watching those who did look at me in disgust when I told them I was taking advanced O chem as a pleasure class along with diffy EQ.
Then when I was a grad student, I enjoyed failing a bunch of whiners that clearly were not trying.
I guess I liked pre meds, for entertainment purposes.

Psych major who is now a second year med student :^).

My school is flooded with premeds because we have a pretty decent bio department.

Basically a bunch of average IQ brainlets competing over who gets to be the professors bitch and do western blots. And then they think they are scientists or some shit.

Grades are incredibly inflated because of the constant pressuring of professors to curve grades and give extra credit.

As an MD-PhD student (PhD in microbiology bioinformatics, though I still have a couple of years to go) I can tell you that at least in my country and field that's not true. For my PhD I am required to spend maybe 10 hours/day at the lab, and then I can go home and do whatever I wanted. I have weekends free, holidays... Petty great. And even when you work the strain isn't horrible, you can pace yourself.

For some of the years in med-school I had to go through fucking hell. I had to study every waking hour during the week (had to go down to 5 hours of sleep a night too), and every hour on the weekends. 2nd year was so bad I had a clear schedule of what I do in every hour during the week and weekend. It's like you're going through a nightmare the whole week, and then the weekend hits and the nightmare just continues and continues. There were some better periods, and I still haven't completed all years, but I can definitely say that for my country and field, med-school is a lot more stressful than regular graduate school.

And just to illustrate on why all that stress was needed, if I remember correctly for second year it was:
>8-10 hours of frontal lectures per day
>2-3 quizzes per week
>1 lab per week+lab report
>homework we have to hand in, every week
>2 dissections per week, each requiring at least half a day of preparation
>If you want to get top grades you also have to go through the books on weekends, some of them thousands of pages long

fourth year med student reporting in

can confirm med school is awful and full of awful people. gotta grind thru and do your best to play along with everyones bullshit.

but dang dude helping out on a clamshell thoracotomy for a traumatic arrest in the ED at 1am is pretty fucking sweet.

pic very related

>And then they become a doctor and make $300k a year

>implying all people who stupidly call themselves "pre-med" ACTUALLY get into med school

HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Does every doctor make 300k?

Math majors make a $300k starting.

Not really on topic but you guys might know. Is spending two years to get a BSN worth? My school offers an accelerated degree, and I already have the math and chem prereq's - all I need is one biology course. My major is accounting but I'd be doing it just for the knowledge. Will I learn useful things like setting bones, giving IV's, etc. or just a bunch or random crap?

No need to be autistic GPA whore if you are black or hispanic.
You just have to be the correct skin color.

Kek

I hope that picture was not taken by you.
>Ethics 101

>mfw Persian and considered bureaucratically white even though I'm obviously fucking brown

I'm already in medical school but I remember telling my friends that I'd kill to be black in today's America.

You know you could just write Hispanic or minority on your applications.
Then sue the school for not accepting your race identity

How does one remember pharm med bros?

no easy way. just gotta brute force that shit. flashcards work well.

sometimes you can predict side effects from the mechanism though which helps.

slimy idiots with their fingers on the pulse of modern cheating techniques and multitasking. like secretaries on speed

UCLA here. Premeds are fucking insufferable, almost as bad as engineers. They get to take baby tier physics and chemistry too. Fuck them.

kek

Since there are many doctors here.. how is methylphenidate for studying? Its probably is the only stimulant available in my cunt and easy to get as well. Should i? If not, why not?

I want to lick her armpit while nutting in her womb tbf

Pre-meds are the scum of the earth.

what majors are genuinely not memes?

Doctors. Study 1 organism and think they are the master race.
Vets. Study many organisms and ARE the master race.

Doctors: get into medical schools
Vets: cant get into med schools and have to use memes to make a point

Chemistry
Electrical Engineering
Math

>Plus you gotta sacrifice social life because you wont have much time to see people
Haha jokes on you, I don't have a social life

you're right, i've decided stats/math is the way to go, who can say no to 300k starting? still it's always fun to take science courses and shit all over them

How can you make 300k starting with math lol?
Is this a meme?
