Math is supposed to be some universal truth

>math is supposed to be some universal truth
>has people arguing about it all the fucking time
explain this, mathfags

That's like complaing there are different people called Steve. It's a convention for what your N stands for. Or that it stands for a set at all.

>There exist people on Veeky Forums who believe that [math]\left( \mathbf N,\, +,\, \times \right)[/math] is not a semiring and that 0 is neither a finite ordinal nor a finite cardinal

math is like a rope that you tie into a bunch of crazy knots and then try to untie, you know that there's a direct line from one end to the other, but as the line becomes more complex the method to untie it moves into a quasi-subjective realm

if 0 is so natural why did it take hundreds of years to be adopted into any culture's number systems?

Truth is complicated and can be interpreted in various ways.

In the real world people don't argue that much about math. It's different when you're on a Chinese cartoon site. In actuality the level of petty bickering and diverging schools is practically nonexistent compared to basically any other field.

So is 0 in N or not

It's not. Three is the naturalist number. That's the reason humans tend to like it so much.

Then how do you explain Papa Wildberger?

I think that Wildberger experiences reality like an imageboard 24/7

People discuss those issues on the weekends and on retreats. Wildberger also has a day to day job.

Are you crazy? See his topology videos. There he records himself giving his actual algebraic topology class with his actual students. That is his actual job. In the first class he talks about a sphere in R^3 but then says that he will instead talk about spheres in Q^3 because those actually exist and then he goes on to write his rational parametrization of a circle on the board.

That guy is always thinking about how reals don't exist.

There is no truth but this truth, user-kun

What the fuck Wildberger

Define definition!

>models built for the implicit interpretation of the universe
>universal truth

Fuck off

You're confused with physics. They are actually helpful.
If math doesn't give a universal truth like you say, it is absolutely worthless.

They are arguing definitions not results.

A result is either wrong or right if 2 people are arguing about it at least one of them is wrong.

>A result is either wrong or right
Or both or neither :^)

Well the only possible third state is unknown in which arguing is pointless.

>>math is supposed to be some universal truth
It is
>>has people arguing about it all the fucking time
People argue about semantics, not the essence of math
>explain this, mathfags
The only math that matters is applied math btw
