because our brain doesn't trust us at the wheel of the important stuff. aka evolution figured out we survive better if we don't have access to certain stuff

So pussy is dangerous to you?

imagine what it would be like if women could induce menstruation whenever they wanted to. if they could it would decrease the likelyhood that their vagine would be ready to fertilize an egg. if all that cap just fell out of your bag at will how would the egg latch onm we'd be screwed. I'm sure there are other problems as well.

>cap
crap
>bag
vag

Because there is no need. What goes on inside is repetitive and it's only dangerous when it doesn't function accordingly to other things. We pay attention to what's outside of ourselves, where the unusual and dangerous may come from, but our bodily functions are mechanized and therefore alienated of our attention. There are levels though. I find it particulary intelligent that our bladder does not require our control when empty or close to empty, but when it's full, it increasingly require us to pay attention and hold it "manually". You see how the more in relationship to the outside, the more control we have. We can chew, and pay attention to it, spit poisonous stuff, but we don't control our intestines. We can breath manually or automatically, air goes in and goes out and we can control this process, while something like the heart or liver seems to work on its own, only relating to what the other organs are doing.

You don't have as much control as you may think about anything, anyway. Have you ever noticed you don't control your brain?

>You don't have as much control as you may think about anything, anyway. Have you ever noticed you don't control your brain?

you have no control

We have all the control our consciousness needs. Do we need to control our breathing (i.e. to speak)? Yes, we do. Do we need to do it all the time? No. Do we need to have control over when to piss and shit? Yes. Do we need to control all of our digestion? No. Do we need to control our heartbeats? Hell no.

Etc.

The real question is why we need to sleep.
As long as we need it it's no surprise evolution made us to lose body control when sleeping, it would be way too dangerous.

there is actually control of unconscious bodily functions at the same brain areas which control conscious body movement etc. the only difference is the feel of agency and the complexity of the outside world. The difference in control is actually illusory. many unconscious functions such as heartrate are controlled at the same level as your explicit intention to move your arm. Remember our universe entails determinism in our brains.

this is interesting.

>many unconscious functions such as heartrate are controlled at the same level as your explicit intention to move your arm.
That is utter bullshit. The ways your heart and your arm are controlled couldn't be more different from each other. Completely different mechanism.

>We can breathe manually
YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS, BOYS
Also The Game

Don't fret, Pepe. We ARE the brains. The body is like a vehicle for it.

they both involve the anterior cingulate, which is one of the highest levels of processing in the brain.

im trying to say there isn't really a qualitative difference in the control of these mechanisms. "control and agency" are illusory and i think a function of how complex the function needs to be.

Not only would you probably make a mistake and kill yourself, it would be information overload.

You have no control over anything.

Your brain has two "modules", the low level reptile shit, and the higher level mammalian shit.

For some reason we don't know, the higher level mammalian shit also produces a sensation of experience when doing its information processing, and the lower level shit doesn't. Well actually maybe the lower level shit does produce a subjective experience, but its not the same "you" as the one thats reading this.

Shit gets even weirder when you learn about split brain stuff.

TFW no admin rights to your own body.
REEEEEEEEEEE

Because it would overload your consious brain.
>You are not breathing
>You are now going to digest this food after hours have passed
>You are now going to release the chemicals in your head that cause an erection

Just imagine literally thousands of different commands and you have to MAINTAIN ALL OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME.

Split brain is your brain malfunctioning not two seperate consciousnesses.

>many unconscious functions such as heartrate are controlled at the same level as your explicit intention to move your arm.
I don't see the problem since you can consciously control your heartrate to an extent, it just takes discipline.

We do. Its called reflexes. There are people who have trained themselves to slow down their heartbeat.
You have to remember, we consciously move our hand but thats a very simple command.
>Send N current to X muscle
Your heart on the other hand is
>Send N variable current to X muscle at Y frequency while accounting for Z rate of flow
It gets more complicated and Im sure youd forget to beat your heart once in a while

We are not brains, we don't have a body. We are our body, it is not something you own, it's yourself. Your brain is just part of this body that is totally you.
