The blockchain is only there to incentivised the network.

p2p networking is nothing new and that's why we have tor.

The problem with tor is that there isn't enough incentives for people to become a node as they are not getting paid.

by layering blockchain underneath a p2p network, suddenly you can have an economy because incentives are aligned for everyone.

people will happily forward traffic no longer for altruistic reasons but because they get fucking paid.

also the data packets are encrypted + you only know the nodes ONE before and after where it is hopping so you have no idea what it is in it, no idea who forwarded and no idea who requested it. you just need to forward encrypted data and get paid. meanwhile you can use VPN yourself for free if you hold skycoins.

as far as i know, everyone can use testnet and become a node. however only the whitelisted people will be paid.

so you can use the testnet and get specialised VPN for free when it launches.

only whitelisted nodes will be paid for testnet. non-whitelisted nodes can access and use the VPN but will not be paid for providing bandwidth.

Obviously in mainnet everyone will be paid for uploading but for testnet they are still working out the economical models.

I think skycoin is one of the most ambitious projects out there. If they actually achieved what they wanted it would easily be a top 5 coin.
Or even set up the internet mesh in a city or small country.
