Texas eats

What are some restaurants, local specialities, or culture every tourist or resident should enjoy in the Houston Texas area? Local chains, hidden gems, famous bbq etc?

Or on the way to Houston even, we'll be travelling in on i-30 then swinging down 45 to Houston

The Cheesecake Factory in the galleria or you could go to eddie v's; expensive and mehokay

You can always stop at a Buckees and get some beef jerky or shit on the way down 45

this. also Panera bread is pretty good, and there's a Maggianos downtown

fuck off you retarded fags. those are both generic meme franchises that exist everywhere.

OP, eat a dick. dont come to Texas, we are full.

Red River bbq in Katy is delicious, going later this afternoon to eat there.

...

fuck your local houston bullshit

>tfw north texas
>braums
>whataburger
>golden chick
>waffle house and ihop

>Red River bbq

Local bbq caterer here. They are shit as far as their actual barbecue goes. At least go to Rudy's.

There's plenty of good barbecue nowadays. Corkscrew up north. Killen's in Pearland. Pinkerton's in the Heights looks decent.

As far as everything else, I would first recommend going to Chinatown or finding good Vietnamese food.

Bluewater Seafood by 290 is good as fuck

Houston is shit. Drive out to Llano and have Cooper's.

I live in West Houston.

Some places that I've enjoyed:
>The Original Marini's Empanada House
>Manena's Pastry Shop and Deli
>Any of the Pappa's restaurants, particularly Pappadeaux's. Can be expensive.
>Ra Sushi over in City Centre
In fact, lots of great restaurants over in the City Centre area.
>Whataburger. Seriously.
>The Bull and Bear is a comfy pub off of Westheimer
>Ramen Jin

I mean, you got a bit of extra time on your trip? Lockhart, TX is about 2 and half hours away via I-10. There's a local joint there called Black's that serves amazing BBQ.

if he's legal its not a problem, if you're coming down 45 you'll pass right next to my place

there's a place called Old Town Spring that's pretty cool to drive around and they got a lot of food you can try, typical stuff around here, but they're all mom and pop diners and dives

Old Town Spring is just south of the new 99 loop on the north side on I45. its in the city of Spring

Corkscrew mentioned is in there, but they usually sell out before noon, there's always a line around the block.

It would be kind of hard for a wetback to come DOWN from i30

I'm austin right off 35 there is a place that serves the cheapest tacos in town. 3.35 for three and they are delicious

The big texan

McDonalds is always good.

How can I into Houston Chinatown? I've been through a bunch of times but I have no idea where to go. I'm intimidated by it.

You realize Houston has all of those except Braums, right? And Golden Chick a shit

Mala Sichuan Bistro. There's also a place called LA Fisherman in that area that I love. Don't be intimidated, just drive in, pick a restaurant and give it a try. Get out of your comfort zone a little

I honest to God expected more out of you guys than meme fast food and shitty barbeque.

OP, there's a Brazillian steak house in Houston that's amazing and is all you can eat. Chama Gaúcha Brazilian Steakhouse. It's on Westheimer and Fountainview, just a little bit off of I69.

Please for the love of God don't go to any of this meme shit; we have better food here than that.

Just drive around the major strip malls that include places like suggested (Mala). Dun Huang Plaza which you can't miss right next to the beltway along with the center across from it have tons of options. If you cross I10 on Bellaire going west you'll find more of the same including Hong Kong Mall.

So you ignored all of the recommendations that aren't fast food or BBQ?

>Brazillian steak house
>all you can eat
pick 2

they're always all-you-can-eat

This right here. Fuck off we're full.

But pretty easy for Californians

Butthurt pooston shit head retard with virility issues spotted lmfao

Kill yourself impotent faggot.

Do you even GEOGRAPHY?

Californians would just take 1-10 all the way.

Texas is like the fat chick at the party who gets all uppity and goes "I have a boyfriend!" when someone tries to talk to them because they look lonely and awkward.

Don't flatter yourself too much, Tex. No one wants your "queso" and your shiner bock, let alone wanting to live there.

Then why is Texas being overrun with people from both the east and west coasts, as well as all the damn snowbirds?
I don't even live in Texas, and I know how badly it's being infested with people from all over. Burying your head in the sand and being ignorant doesn't change facts.

When in Mexico, eat mexican

>except Braums

faggot, don't ever post in my threads again

>I have a boyfriend!
I heard you fine the first time

>Don't flatter yourself too much, Tex. No one wants your "queso" and your shiner bock, let alone wanting to live there.
>Shiner
Seriously this meme needs to end. Texas has tons of amazing craft beer, fuck Shiner.

I heard Wunsche Bros. burned down or something and isn't there anymore. Sad. Was always my favorite part of Old Town Spring.

Then get the fuck out. I swear if I see another shitty Californian chain show up where I live, I'm gonna go postal.

Out of where? I like it fine here. You don't know where "here" is and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't like it if you did.

>this how idiots think they can insult someone
You should be embarrassed of yourself.

This.

I know InBev owns Karbach now, but they still have some great brews, along with St. Arnold's, Southern Star, and No Label, all local to Houston.

There are some 10/10 hole-in-the-wall joints near me for mexican food.

Particularly, there's an old woman who does tacos in a gas station on Wilcrest south of Westheimer, and her tacos are orgasmic and cheap as hell.

What does braums have that you can't get somewhere else?

Braums, everyone. Nothing better!

There is literally no reason to out of your way for Braums.

It's not terrible, but it ain't good.

braums is fucking amazing.

five cheeseburgers for 7.86. that's the price of a combo most places. i'd rather have five hot cheeseburgers.

Huh, they use same pattern on the wrapper as Wendy's...

why are there so many houstonfags on Veeky Forums

Houston is the worst city in Texas second only to the all of west Texas.

Bump

Houstonian reporting:
Molina's Cantina (on Washington)
Cyclone Anaya's
Escolantes
Papas BBQ (on Buffalo Speedway)
Rajin Cajun (get a bucket of bugs)
Miller's Cafe (great greasy burger)
Any of the "Little Woodrow's" bars
Frenchies (fried chicken in the hood)
Try a James Cony Island

Papa's burgers uses steak scraps from the steakhouse next door to make burgers.

That's all I can think of at the moment

Also, if you're driving take a shit at one of these

I have never had anyone recommend to me that I take a shit anywhere. Unless you count that time as a child when I smeared shit on the walls for some reason. I was told where I should shit at this point only.

Where else is good to take a shit?
I can't go to Texas any more because I have asthma and the whole state smells like shit and piss because cowboy laws, but this seemed an appropriate question for a state that has feces littering the roads.

If more people just knew where to shit, the state would be less likely to kill visitors.
You could change the world. Or just the Texas.

3 Trips to the hospital in a week for asthma attacks and seizures from exposure to ammonia. You could have prevented this long ago, "this is where to shit" guy.
They need a superhero like you over in Delhi.

i wish i could contribute to this thread but i live just northeast of houston and all the good places to eat here are little mexican places, which you can find everywhere, or just plain ol' aren't worth the drive. but if frosted betty is still selling cupcakes out of revival market, well, they're the best cupcakes i've ever eaten so i highly recommend them.

oh hey i used to stop at the madisonville buc-ee's all the time driving between houston and fort worth

>Hospitalized cause he smells like cowpoop

You are what we call a cull

Anyway knowing good places to shit is a time honored American tradition it used to be what pitstops were for. Caffiene Chow and Constitutions. Sadly the quality of the great American toilet has declined, now there toilets out there whose uncleanliness isn't suitable for Christian asscheeks. It's a goddamn shame

Have fun driving in the worst traffic op

what about austin

Fuck you I like shiner bock. Nothing else from them has been good though. Cheer a solid 5 years ago was good. It's been shit since

The coffee ale going on right now is pretty good. I wish it were higher ABV.

I'm a sucker for any beers with coffee/chocolate flavors, though.

Bubba's Burgers
Taco Trucks
House of Pies
Sasaki sushi and grill (on westheimer)
Chachos
Pappas BBQ
Whataburger

I've lived in houston for 22 years and these are some of my favorite places. There's more I'm forgetting, and I might remember later.

Austin used to be nice, in the 1990s, before the boom. Now, it's just another overrated hipster hellhole. SOUTH CONGRESS WAS BETTER WHEN IT WAS COVERED IN CRACK HOUSES, PROSTITUTES, PORN THEATERS, AND RANDOM SECOND HAND SHOPS. There, I said it, and I meant it.

fuck off

That "poop smell" is the smell of MONEY, honey. You're talking about smell from the stockyards. It's only in certain cities and towns, though.
Also, I have asthma, and never had that problem in Texas except when the pecan and oak trees were blooming, and when in North Texas because of all the cotton fields.

As far as talking about human poop, IDK what the fuck you're on about. Never have seen or heard of that kind of problem, except in places like gas station bathrooms or porta-potties. Your post was weird.

Houston is only worse than Dallas because of the humidity. If it weren't for that, I'd take Houston over Dallas any day. Dallas is a shit hole.
Agreed on West Texas, though. That place is just a desolate, bible-thumping nightmare.

See

I'm currently in Dallas, any suggestions?

I've tried:

Chick-Fil-A
Hard 8 BBQ
Chicken Express
Slims
Bone Daddy's
Whataburger (it's not that good, get over it)
Steak'n'Shake

Just don't go to Pappa's BBQ. It's trash.

As another user said, the shopping centers by Bellaire and 8 are GOAT. I recommend Fufu's (either location).

Whataburger

Try some BBQ. I can't think of a specific restaurant personally, but just find some small mom & pop shop. They're normally pretty good down here. Check them out on Yelp.

Okay let me be clear, go to Star Tapioca in Chinatown. It's fantastic and one of the best places I've eaten with bombass tapioca tea. If you go, try the fried chicken and rice combo or the fried pork chop.

whataburger is trash

Texan here.

I sort of agree with the "fuck off we're full" statement but if you want to fit in and be Texan that's cool come on down.

I'm in the DFW area, but I know a few places over in Houston. Focus on the seafood, Houston has some of the best seafood in Texas. BBQ is decent but DFW and Austin do it a lot better (because it's all we can do without seafood)

How long are you in DFW? If you're there till the end of the week go to Cattleacks on Thursday or Friday. #1 BBQ in DFW, the only problem is they're only open two days a week.

Barring that, Meso Maya has good Mexican food and if you're into asian food I can drop about 5 different places that I go to at least once a month (wife is chinese).

dude, i used to work in the offices at alpha and omega - I'd leave the office early every friday and go drink their free beer while ordering a huge beef rib and some meat pies

>Tall Texan (Divey and cash only)

Is there any way possible to get all of these on a map at once to see if there's anything near me?

listen to these anons and ignore the dumbasses telling you to go to chain shit

Fuck, I'm out tomorrow. Should have gone on Friday. I come down every couple months from Canada anyway, will keep in mind, never heard anyone mention this place before.

Why do nu-male coastal cucks get so triggered by Texas?

>Texas doesn't have coasts

Shut up little Mexico.

>you "people" are in driving distance from where I live
Is there hope left in this life

you can enjoy the traffic while you're here

M8 Dallas fucking sucks. Well it isn't that bad but I much prefer Houston for many reasons. I've spent lots of time in both. Imho Houston>San Antonio>Austin>>Dallas

That's why I said Dallas is a shit hole.
I'd agree with your list, except I'd to
San Antonio>Houston>Austin>Fort Worth>Dallas>>>>>>fuck West Texas and the Panhandle

Oh god, I love Katz's. Used to go there on a regular basis when it was in Austin.
>Yankee Pot Roast (aka "Melt in Your Mouth") still one of the best sandwiches EVER.
>Cheese stuffed Potato (aka Cheese Knish)
>get a crock of pickles for the table
>they make great fucking Bloody Marys, but if I remember correctly, they call them Bloody Marias.

Moved up north some four years ago but my family always loves going to Lupe Tortillas. Get a queso app and order the mixed fajitas for like two or three. Makes for GOAT leftovers too.

If you go make sure it's the original one out near Katy. The second one they opened lacked the atmosphere.

Pappadeux was expensive, we usually ended up at Goode Company for seafood.

If you get the chance check out Moon Tower Inn downtown. They might be cash only iirc unless it's changed, but they had all kind of wild game hot dogs. Won some awards too I think.

Saw you list House of Pies and it brought back great memories. OP make sure you hit this place up and get a slice of the Bayou Goo.

Think I'm gonna have to learn how to make that one.

There's a Lupe Tortilla in College Station. It is shit. What a terrible excuse for a Mexican restaurant.

>Ra Sushi
Faggot.

Hong Kong Market/Mall is pretty neat.

Les Givral's on Milam

Springbok

Star Pizza

Thirding Mala

Frank's

the old Asia Market location past cavalcade & airline (new one has failed to impress, sorry noi)

The Honeymoon's espresso is pretty nice, roasted on site. Boomtown Coffee is owned by the same people, both pretty good

Seconding Teotihuacan, go to the little one on Irvington, hell just in general, Northside is great for tacos

Nab some Llanite from the side of the road while you're at it.

>The Original Marini's Empanada House

This an absolute must-visit.

>lupe tortillas
>mikeskas

Daily bump

Grew up on soco when it was a shitty. Best investment my folks ever made. Sold my childhood house a couple years ago for just over 1.2 mil and bought it for the lower 100s (mid 80s when they bought it). I still love here for my job, but austin went from being somewhat of a sleepy town to a clusterfuck. Still a good place, but full of Californians (thanks for the free money, you worthless locusts) and hipster trash.

doesn't Texas have a huge wild hog problem? go into the forest and fight some wild hogs with a gatling gun then take them to a guy who will BBQ them. make sure to serve with chili without beans

Stop at the big-ass Buccee's to the north, for jerky and fudge and beaver nuggets

Go to Bellaire for bun bo hue (order with pig's blood and all)

Go to Alamo Tamales and tacos, for proper, greasy Mexican food.

Everyone lines up at 3am for the Breakfast Club, but I suspect it's a gigantic meme.

Moontower has awesome, awesome burgers, like ostrich and so forth.

Try Saint Arnold lawnmower and Santos, while you're here.

Avoid like the plague any chains, like Pappa-whatever, and anything that creeped in from Austin.

We have all of those, except Braums, and we can buy better ice cream at the big-ass HEB in Montrose, and better burgers at Moontower.

>ah, I have things the rest of Texas has, fuck Houston
Faggot.

Oh, and big deal, here.

Best pho place I've ever had, I've been to most in Houston-proper and Bellaire, that's alot of fucking pho, so I know what i'm talking about. Best pho place I've ever had, is Pho Hoa, in Greenspoint. About $1.2 gets you a hulking Betchacan't of the realest, herbiest, tendon and tripeiest pho you've ever had, plus a fresh, smelly durian shake. There's not a hangover in the world that can withstand that.

Star Pizza is good I used to work at both.

Protip: the new one on Washington has better and more consistent food. But the one in Montrose has that certain 'panache', nothing else like it in Houston

>Complains about meme food
>Brazilian steakhouse

The ironing.
