What do you think of this one?

What do you think of this one?

Just read it last week. I enjoyed it, though I can't help but think Hesse was a little full of himself when he went through the effort of concentrating what is essentially homebrew doctrine in such a small book.

Also, it is pretty gay. Nothing wrong with that aspect, but I was not expecting such homoerotic tension..

Pretty much my favorite book. I loved the simplicity of the dialogue and narration. I found that to be very striking.

One quote I always remember is
"So what can you do, Siddhartha?"
"I can think, I can wait, and I can fast"

Hesse

Why don't you read some Fromm too? Maybe some Kundera?

I consider it an essential book.

I don't remember anything about it.
Steppen Wolf left a bigger impression in me.

Buddhism-lite for degenerate hippies and teenagers

If you want a novel you're better off reading something else

If you want Buddhism you're better off reading the sutras

It's a great book that serves to introduce Buddhism to Westerners written by a Western author.

Despite the nay sayers in this thread, the book is a real gem. It's a short book, but packed with a great story, and plenty of thought. You can read it easily in a weekend (or day). It's worth reading.

Which translation should I read? Hilda Rosner or Joachim Neugroschel?

Rika Lesser did the best translation. (I've read them all)

thanks. Looks like a good edition.

Kamala's the best character in the book, hands down.

eastern ""thought""" lmao

>sex is bad and makes you impure xd

Stick to "eat rice, be nice" yellow fucks.

This is a certified G A Y opinion.
Congrats.

Hesse is pretty homoerotic. Demian and Beneath the Wheel are even more homoerotic than this one.

Actual Buddhist here

I read it a few years back, I liked it and it got me interested in Buddhism

However its not really very Buddhist, its worldview is more a type of Romanticism

So its cool

agreed

Why read this when we have far superior Marcus Aurelius?

>Hesse was a little full of himself when he went through the effort of concentrating what is essentially homebrew doctrine in such a small book.
I don't mean to come across as an arse but is this the only Hesse you have read?

I liked Steppenwolf more.

>essentially homebrew doctrine

???

i preffered glass bead game/magister ludi

>tfw no limber brown skinned demigoddess to suck out your soul through your dick

Beautiful book. Loved it. It's short. Read it and form your own opinion.

Stoic philosophy is natural and absurdly easy when one's an opium addict.

fuck you and your mom a gay

Demian's my favorite. It's approach to practical daily meditation and Xtianity mingled with Gnosticism appeals greatly to me.

Generic and devoid of anything meaningful.

>Oh, look at this special boy and how wise he is. Not temperamental and foolish like the normies.

It's Ender's Game without the battles or it's the Gospels without the Crucifixion. Just feel-good special boy stuff

Siddhartha's a great book, along with his others.

>tfw I'm German and read everything by Hesse in German

Horribly overrated, but worth a read since it's so short.

>Actual Buddhist here
>read it a few years back and it got me interested in Buddhism
Holy.....

one of the best books I've read, short and powerful
