Dislike classic author

>dislike classic author
>LEL UR JUST A CONTRARIAN XD
Why does Veeky Forums do this? Do you guys really depend on charts to tell you what is good?

No. Depends of what we actually like and we like Borges, you contrarian fuck

>we
There is no "we". This is Veeky Forums. Stop being such a follower.

I always found it weird that Harold Bloom likes every classic author. Really? Every single one? Like, normal readers have taste that says they might like Joyce but not like Dickens, or they might like Sterne, but they can't stomach F. Scott Fitzgerald. Bloom likes it all.

>like classic author
>LEL UR A PSEUD DRONE XD

You've seen that thread too?

You have no taste, that's ok but don't come on a literature board

You're a psued drone if you think everyone who doesn't like X author is a le contrarian
? I'm not the guy from the Borges thread

Not true. He thinks Edgar Allan Poe and Sylvia Plath are terrible, he hates Catch-22, and he says that Orwell is terrible literature and is only good for political relevance or something,

Sylvia Plath is far from a "classic author" though. She's just a cult figure for teen girls. And people have been giving Poe shit since forever.

>Why does Veeky Forums do this?

Pathetic.

>I care about the dumbshit opinions I find on Veeky Forums, enough to make an entire thread devoted to discussing it

Why do people do this?

he's right apart from catch-22 desu

Because the same people who make these statements can never back up their arguments. Most of these same people are just being deliberately contrarian for (you)'s.

You can't say "I don't like it", on a discussion board, without giving reason for not liking it.

i don't like a single writer from my country and because of that i'm a "mutt"

>Do you guys really depend on charts to tell you what is good?
Veeky Forums top 100 has yet to fail me desu.

This is one of the better lists I've seen but Alan Moore doesn't really belong there.

this

Veeky Forums as a collective entity is so fucking stupid

great Veeky Forums meme, you bait-fellow

Moore was just a flavour of the month around the time of voting.

>This is one of the better lists I've seen
It's always the fucking same list, mongoloid
Even if it's different, it's always the same

>being told I'm a contrarian on Veeky Forums
>on Veeky Forums
that's a compliment desu

>mongoloid

For some reason I really like that word

Atleast it doesn't have fucking Harry Potter on it.

We depend on charts?

because you are
but I do not discriminate you for that

Usually the dislike is not substantiated, and if reasons are even given, they are utterly insipid the majority of the time. People are so eager to have an opinion they fail to consider if they should.

>believing you always need a reason to dislike something
You're wrong.

>say I detest Jane Austen
>told that I am /r9k/ or /pol/
>Virginia Woolf is my favorite author

tolstoy sucks

Having an opinion on anything and everything is an essential American trait.

All 'reasons' for any kind of art criticism/review are simply formalizations of one's intuitions. Meaning it's not that you don't have a reason, you just can't articulate it.

>Having an opinion on anything and everything is an essential American trait
100% true

>you just can't articulate it
Another essential American trait?
Maybe I don't want to articulate it because what I want is exactly to express my simple feeling, or because I don't want to waste time on Veeky Forums writing something that will fall in the well of oblivion

Anyway I agree that the mere logic "I like / I don't like" is poor as fuck. Though if you always try to find reasons to what you dislike, you eventually get to deceive yourself, your own mind, and start to like something just because of an argument

>ebooks aren't real books!
>i buy 50 books per year and read 5!
>i read fiction, but don't display it on my shelf, i hide it under the bed
>i read more ancient greeks than the ancient greeks did
>i m a writer yes. non, i've never been published
>i have my own unique opinions that happen to coincide with the top 100 list

Why does Veeky Forums do this?

I think I misunderstood you to mean "I don't have a reason" when you meant "I don't have to give a reason" and if so, my bad. Still, I do like to believe people have some level of obligation or duty to improve the discourse of whatever public forum they use for discussion, even an online weaboo shitposting-academy like this one.

i get it though. It's a good book but it just has this thing where the prose seems like a facade hiding someone who isn't that great of a writer. can't really explain it but it feels good that i get him

alan moore, LOTR, Dune, Alice in wonderland defnitely don't belong.

1984, 100 years of solitude, Kafka on the shore, naked lunch, gene wolfe, brave new world etc. all have their qualities but aren't quite top 100.

Dickens, Austen, Bronte all deserve a spot.

other than all that, it's a fantastic list

because simply disliking something and presenting actual, thought-out criticism are two different things, and this board is generally too lazy to do the latter

>Disagree with anything
>LEL UR JUST A CONTRARIAN XD
you've either got to get used to it, or post somewhere else

This post is contrarian af.

lol. just offering up a taste of the truth

Veeky Forums isn't a subreddit you retard, we don't all think the same stupid shit, and I don't give a fuck who you like.

>Maybe I don't want to articulate it because what I want is exactly to express my simple feeling, or because I don't want to waste time on Veeky Forums writing something that will fall in the well of oblivion
But feeling the need to add your +1 to the tally isn't a waste? That's some interesting cognitive dissonance you've got going there.

kys

here's my +1, it takes me 5 seconds to write, so no it's not a waste

>we don't all think the same stupid shit
