Why are there no books about how hopeless and stupid humanity is? I am sick of all this religious spiritual shit about how humanity is so beautiful and consciousness is so special. The smartest most special human of all time is still related to a bunch of shit-eaters, torturers, and animals. You can pretend all you want, but it's the truth.

Dude, I have the opposite problem. I keep looking for (tastefully) uplifting stuff (not just feel-good romances or whatever) but it seems like everything is so cynical and mean-spirited.

I mean a book about the kind of depressing idiocy that plagues everyday life in the world around us, not in necessarily harmful or evil ways.

I want a book that puts humanity down a couple of pegs in a way that isn't george carlin esque fedora "I hope everyone dies" cynicism, but something more bleak and realistic.
