HEB is better

shoutout to the texas famalams on Veeky Forums

I like TJ's. You expect it to be nothing but expensive crap but most of their stuff is reasonably priced. They have a great frozen section and cheese selection.

It's really hit and miss. Some are good, some suck donkey dick. Some are reasonably priced and others are grossly over priced.

I will say this though, my local one is always clean and the people that work there are always friendly and attentive if you need help.

I agree, honestly- I love their soy chicken strips, but sadly, they stopped stocking it at the one in my area.

A guy from one of my local trader joes posted this the other day. Good shit.

Garbage masquerading as a "good deal". There is a reason you only see 18-25 millennials shopping there, they have no life skills and think "cooking" means chopping up some onions to throw in the instant ramen. A few packs of freezer burned Chinese tilapia is like serious gastronomic exploration for these people, and maybe some shit-tier farmed salmon where the flesh is like 5% dead worms by weight.

The "wine" is made out of fourth-rate arsenic-laden fruit, chemically adulterated and run through as many stages of ultra-filtration, micro-oxygenation and other processes to suppress the most unpleasant flavors and turn it into a sort of alcoholic version of Kraft Singles.

Absolutely disgusting, Aldi-tier trash store, which fools the naive into thinking it's something good by putting panda bears on its house-brand stale cereal that tastes like the stuff Newegg packs computer parts in.

good for meme foods like riced cauliflower, pork belly, and black garlic

You taste your Newegg packaging?

I'm not saying your post is inaccurate at all, in fact I agree, but I've never eaten shipping materials.

For a while (haven't ordered from them in years) they used "biodegradable" packing peanuts, it was said to be made of some kind of stuff that resembled food. Naturally, I stuck my tongue on a piece. It did indeed taste like you could probably eat it and not die. But I didn't actually consume any.

>tastes random objects out of curiosity
>shits on millennials for not being culinary adventurous enough

Living the dream.

I'll try essentially anything once. How do you think I have an opinion on TJs? Once was enough. What a horrible store.

I can think of a few things I have that you could taste.

I've tasted my own semen. Not that great, desu. But thanks for offering.

does it actually taste like salted coins?

I guess I could see that. I would have just said snot.

Some good products at good prices--a good alternative to typical supermarkets and upscale grocers. I wouldn't get 100% of food I need here though.

Some TJs stuff stands out though. Good mixed veggie items, good PB, decent coffee, decent cheese, some good sweets/chocolates.

yeet yeet

I go there for eggs, steak, and their 1 lb bacon ends and pieces. All great-tier. Dealing with the crowd is a fucking bitch though.

I live Uptown Manhattan and going to Trader Joe's is a pain in the ass, but everything I get there is excellent quality for usually less than the surrounding grocery stores. Going to Costco may be more masochistic, though. I can't wait for the Whole Foods to open up on 125th, if only for convenience

Why not just go to Fairway? It's been there for years. YEARS.

Shitty as a grocery store
Good as a junk food store

Is Fairway any less expensive than TJ's? I've always avoided the word 'gourmet' since moving to NYC because that's code word for "expensive." I live in Harlem near the Hospital on 135th, and I only shlepp down to TJ's like only 1-2 times a month. I usually shop at my neighborhood Associated because it's right at the bottom of my building, but usually the produce selection is so-so.

I buy my meat in bulk at Costco and portion it out to either freeze or grind into sausages or regular meat, and sometimes I go to the butcher for a fancier cut for when there's company.

Their produce is always terrible.
I've had potatoes go bag just a few days after buying them. And I don't even bother looking at their strawberries anymore, just looking at the packages at the store it's hard find ones that aren't growing mold.

Everything else is pretty damn good though.

WHY THE FUCK DID THEY GET RID OF THE SARDINES IN HARISSA SAUCE THEY WERE MY FAVORITE EASY DINNER FOOD AND IM JUST SO FUCKING FRUSTRATED MY LIFE FUCKING SUCKS I DRINK TOO MUCH THE GIRL I WAS SEEING WENT BACK TO HER EX BOYFRIEND AND ALL I WANT TO DO IS EAT SOME SPICY DINES BEFORE PASSING OUT AND HAVING TO DO ANOTHER FUCKING 8-5 WORKDAY GOD FUCKING DAMNIT FUCKING KILL ME ALREADY

Godspeed, brother.
Godspeed.
Personally, I can't live without the Sriracha Potato Chips.

Not really sure what your question is. You're praying for a Whole Foods and wondering if Fairway is expensive?

The advantage of Fairway over WF is that the produce selection is cheaper. Fairway also caters to a lot of Jews who are, naturally Jews about their meat. You can get some alright chicken garbage parts for stock and stuff at Fairway for cheaper than WF. The coffee selection at WF is better (Grumpy and Irving and so on). The bulk grains and nuts and legumes is also better and cheaper at WF. WF has a better selection of raw milk cheeses. If you are looking more at cheaper cheeses, Fairway wins for selection and quality. The fish is probably a tossup. Pre-made foods, WF wins. Fairway has some good bulk generic olive oils but I've never found any Palestinian olive oil, like they have at WF. WF has occasional sales on fitness stuff (proteins, supplements, etc) which Fairway never does. Fairway has a better selection of lox and sable and that kind of thing. The bakeries at both are gross.

This.
The meat section at the TJ near me is terrible. High fucking prices for garbage. No skin on or bone in chicken so I have to part or roast a whole bird myself. Also, I don't know if their refrigeration is busted, but all the packages meats are just brimming with liquids.

Good for fruits, vegetables, and that jalapeno pub cheese.

No, I'm saying that Whole foods would be convenient for me when it opens because it'd be 7 blocks away from my building. I only shlepp down to TJ's because it gives me fancy produce and things I can't get from my Associated. If I need a particular ingredient or something I can't really get at my little store I'd have to go down to TJ's (or if I really can't find it, a WF somewhere.)

I was mostly asking if Fairway would be a replacement for me going to TJ's because the lines/crowds there are stupid. WF isn't really the same thing to me as TJ's, and it isn't convenient to where I live (along the 2&3) so it being on 125th would make it reasonable.
I don't really get meat/seafood at either place. I live next to a fish market, and I get my meat from Costco/butcher. And as for bread, if I can't be bothered baking my own, I just get the cheap/pleb stuff at the Associated.

they're for lower middle-class people who want to know what whole foods is like.

Girlfriend works there. I despise most of the frozen products. Cheese and snack foods make trader joes a makeshift party planner's wet dream

It tastes like the way a shitty beach smells. Just imagine seawater, bird shit, dead shrimp and a faint cum flavor.

unexpected cheddar

I used to like all their frozen stuff but I can make it for myself cheaper and have it taste better. Now I just go for really specific things, like cheeses, certain kinds of chocolate, garlic naan, bloody mary mix, and (recently) yuzu hot sauce.

The Greek Chicken with orzo is pretty bomb and the salads are bomb too.

>(((HEB)))

I just bought this, how is it?

No surprise, TJ's is owned by Aldi.

There's this weird phenomena where you get something you like from Trader Joe's regularly and all of a sudden it's no longer sold anywhere. It's happened so many times to me and people I know

Pic related was a pepper I really liked and always bought but this was the only image I could find, all traces have been wiped from existence

The only good trader Joe's brand shit that's worth it for their wine

Shouldn't you be whining about shitcrows

Shitcrows?

>tfw forgot to pick up the yuzu hot sauce
I hope yuzu doesn't become the next meme. Also their cheeses are the cheapest I've found.

>bought it
>hasn't tasted it
I don't know how it is

I still like their Frozen stuff just to have whenever I dont feel like cooking anything. They've got decent prices for produce and I like some of the meme products that they have ( yuzu hot sauce, cookie butter, black garlic). Cheese selection isn't too bad either.

Bought a lamb steak from Trader Joe's once. Was pretty nice.

>There's this weird phenomena
Fingernails on the chalkboard

Singular is phenomenon

I've heard rumors TJ's carries parcooked frozen Kouign Amann and they might be good. Not living near a bakery that makes them fresh, anyone recommend them?

Quality food except for the meat

I really like their white cheddar puffs

>user reads about the latest memefood online
>gets the nasty pre-frozen kind at Aldi
>I was totally underwhelmed, when will this meme end? LMAO at the liberal arts hipsters who line up to be seen eating kouign amman

It's not a millennial thing retard, it's always full of boomers and soccer moms as well. Nobody buys meat or produce at Trader Joe's, but it's decent for nuts, coffee, cheese, cookies, things like that.

>but it's decent for nuts, coffee, cheese, cookies, things like that
no

has a nice cilantro flavor - I like to put it on whaever mexican type thing I'm eating

nothing like the red hot suaces

At my local farmer's market , even the frozen food is made in house. I can't go back to this pleb shit.

HEB = texass = burn it to the ground

>I live here

Trader Joe's is a place that's mainly for people who don't like to cook, so I don't really go there much, but I've heard decent things about most of their premade meals. It's also rather expensive, which what happens when you don't learn how to cook. Guess what the moral of the story is here?

I never know if I am expected to bag my own groceries at TJ's. At most other grocerty stores I go to, the cashier bags stuff as they go, but they almost never do that at TJ's, so they ring everything up and then bag it. I see a lot of people bag their own stuff, but I don't know if that is the expectation. I usually just stand there while they bag everything wondering if I am committing a faux pas.

I like the spicy lentil wraps and most of their salads, only ever really stop there for lunches on weekends when I'm down in Seattle though.

Not him, but I'd say Fairway is a pretty good alternative to TJ's. The one on 125th is pretty consistently less crowded than any of the TJ's in Manhattan.

Biggest deal to me is their produce, as it's cheap and they have a pretty big selection. They have a pretty big selection on everything, really. I'd say it's at least worth scoping out.

I really like the weird niche stuff and foreign-styled treats that you can't find at normal grocery stores, but it's just too expensive and the selection's too small to really shop there regularly.

I see the socialists never made it out in tact.

I love their frozen food and snacks and cheeses, but their produce section is garbage.

It's been a beer ingredient for a while. Even Samuel Adams has a yuzu beer now. Yuzu is kind of perfect for beer, though. I don't know what else it would be good in that'd bring it meme status.

No, actually, because I don't have time to make them from scratch and convenience food is convenient for a reason you autist

You said:
>and they might be good. Not living near a bakery that makes them fresh
Clearly this is not a "convenience food" but an attempt to judge a fashionable new food and then shitpost on the internet about how you were underwhelmed. Otherwise you'd just eat a kind bar or whatever

For whatever reason, the TJ's employees are so much more pleasant than workers at other grocery stores. I don't know if they're paid exceptionally well or what, but they're always great with customer service. I doubt they have the slightest problem bagging your stuff, since that's still a pretty normal part of their jobs.

They fire them if they're not "sincerely friendly" enough

nytimes.com/2016/11/04/business/at-trader-joes-good-cheer-may-hide-complaints.html

Don't you have to have at least a bachelor's to even be a cashier there? That may factor into it,

I never would have thought I'd enjoy a soy ice cream, but their Soy Creamy cherry chocolate chip ice cream is hands down my favorite ice cream ever.

>They fire them if they're not "sincerely friendly" enough
This is the type of shit I hate most about modern american corporate culture. It's not enough for people to just act friendly. You need to act like you love your shitty job that only a retard would love. It shows a certain disrespect for the employees of said company.

>Whole Foods to open up on 125th
Fuckin hell really? I knew harlem was becoming gentrified but not whole foods gentrified. Do me a favor and keep it below 155th, leave the heights alone.

t. lived there since 2014

Try 90s mate. i thought the heights were getting gentrified when we got a starbucks on 168, boy how wrong i was.

No, my friend used to work there and he only had a high school diploma.

I hate them because they're suing a Canadian reseller of their in-house products for some trademark reason yet won't actually open a store in Canada.

npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/08/29/491824957/arrgh-pirate-joes-and-trader-joes-are-once-again-locked-in-legal-battle

The only thing there that I've found to be mediocre was their take on Sriracha sauce.

Otherwise most of the products they sell are reasonably priced and quite good.

It's not worth going there anymore since it's obscenely crowded most of the time, I regularly see lines stretching out the door, especially on the weekends.

>putting catposter in his place, even on Veeky Forums
My nigga

Honestly GOAT

fuck yeah

Go "Irate Joe's" go

Their dried fruit is fucking top notch and a lot of their sauces are great (harissa and Dijon mustard in particular).

I've BAKED Kouign Amann you fucking moron but I haven't had time to do any baking outside of quickbreads for the last few months and sometimes I crave things I don't have time to cook myself from scratch. Holy shit you are dumb.
