Put it in boiling oil for 5 minutes (place egg in the oil when oil is cold so it doesn't crack), then pour water in the oil to cool it down (half the amount of water as oil). It should be cool enough to grab out of the oil.

I make mine in an electric pressure cooker (instant pot) 5 min to come to pressure, 5 min cook time, 5 min natural release. Then remove. They peel like a dream and are perfectly cooked every time.

Deformed - 4 minutes
Forming - 6 minutes
Soft boiled - 8 minutes
Formed - 10 minutes
Hard boil - 12+ minutes, give more time if you like green yoke.

You're not supposed to let them sit in boiling water, you shut it off when the bubbles start or else the shell cracks.
