Lol, adding cornstarch to thicken a sauce is cooking 101 user. The package the cornstarch comes in probably describes how to do it. It's also how 99% of Chinese stir-fry sauces are thickened.

Once you move beyond the basics you'd make a roux with flour and the fat left behind in the pan instead of using the cornstarch as a thickener. And moving on from that you start getting into adding wine and reduced stock to your gravy.
