I don't think I would want nuts on or in mine.

Have an appropriate thermometer or automatic deepfryer so you don't start a grease fire. Or bake them in a donut pan. I have a mini silicone one.

They will never be as good as what you can get at a donut shop.
The dough of a good donut is too wet to work by hand and needs a machine to shit out well formed donuts into the hot oil.

Fritters are the easiest shit to make, but seriously just make a good dough and you can make your ringed goodness. I've never made doughnuts at home because of my small ass counter space, but any time I had free time in my last kitchen I was always baking/frying.

1 cup water
3 eggs
1 cup all purpose flour
6 Tablespoons butter, sliced
2 teaspoons sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
-Glaze-
1 cup powdered sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1½-2 Tablespoons milk

Acceleration includes changing both direction and speed, so you'll likely be accelerating in some manner most of the way there.

This krispy creme doughnut copycat recipe comes out surprisingly light and fluffy similar to the pic. I've made them as doughnuts but more often I make the dough for my wife who is asian and she stuffs them with bean paste.
