I think when I first saw them, I remember it was a Paula Deen-ism to make ooey gooey buttercake. I'll look it up, but I think basically it is yellow or vanilla cake mix with nothing but butter added, such that they become like cookie bars instead of rising with egg. You know how people used to make fun of her butter usage.
