oh, yea I figured that. he came to my school to start his re-election bid in 2012 and they basically shut down the entire campus. it was a pain in the ass.

I've seen it in action a couple times, every street for miles is closed off from where the president is coming from up to the restaurant, with every cop in the county staked out at every stoplight and intersection. The entire city is literally shut down. School buses and everything is at a standstill because they cant announce this very far ahead of time. Then the president arrives in a convoy of about 20 SUV's. Its insane. That happens wherever the president goes.

And there's a lot more than that which happens behind the scenes. A guy I know (who is now retired) used to work as what was basically a "tactical locksmith" for the DoD. Whenever the president (or sufficiently high ranking congresscritter) would travel somewhere he was part of the security detail that would visit wherever they were going in advance. The secret service would need to inspect every room, the contents of every drawer, cabinet, you name it, to see if there were any hidden weapons, explosives, etc. This guys job was to get into any locked rooms/containers so the explosives team could check for bombs.

He would often point out that this would happen not just for official business, but also if, say, a senator was visiting and decided they wanted to go shopping. BAM, security detail has to hit all the shops before senator so-and-so sets foot there.

Why do people dislike him so much? I thought he was a pretty average president. Not below average, but not above average either. I don't understand the hatred or the adoration.
