Who here /diabetes/?

Who here /diabetes/?

Just got diagnosed. Yes it's the one that's my fault.

I was wondering if any of you have it and what kinds of foods are you go to?

I'm just eating more broccoli and black bean burgers.

Can never have this again...

Just drop carbs out entirely. Eat veg meat and fat. Your blood sugar will be more stable throughout the day. Also spread out snacks throughout the day learn to graze. Nuts and small amount of fruit. Only eat meals socially. If you are using fast acting insulin understand how many units prevent spike of how much food.

Walk everywhere. Keep stretching. Keep your body in constant motion. Do everything to promote good blood circulation.

I haven't heard the carb thing so much. I'll cut it out.

Is mayonnaise bad if you're diabetic? I like to make tuna salad and was wondering if I should just avoid the mayo.

Mayonaise is fat and proteins. It's fine to eat but everything in moderation. Get used to trying to run on protein. Trust me it's easier you wont be fatigued with spikes and lows. Also change your diet gradually unless you can handle severe nausea and feeling of weakness from pseudohypoglycemia.

Get with a specialist and talk to them about getting control of your diabetes through diet. Reduce your insulin dependency through self discipline. Good luck user I love you.

>I love you

Y-you too.

But seriously thanks. Going to make some tuna salad.

Carbs as in refined ones like fruit juice, white bread, white rice

Whole fruit is nothing but healthy.

Oh lastly the only times I suggest carbs is for dinner. Things like oatmeal or other fiber filled grains that are slow to digest. Blood sugar tends to drop when sleeping and having a slightly carbed meal at night helps it and prevents you waking from night terrors.

Diabetes is very scary at first. Then it gets very tiring because of the constant maintenance. Eventually it just becomes second nature and you understand your body and symptoms more. Just don't burn yourself out. Yes you can treat yourself to the occassional cakes, ice creams, and sodas. If you go high on your blood sugar it's alright you always have tomorrow to correct it.

You'll be fine.

Sugar is sugar. The only difference is that fruit has a higher fiber content and other nutrition that help mitigate a sharp blood sugar spike. Eat fruit in moderation.

My dad had it and didn't really modify his diet, used to take me to restaurants and eat fried food all the timeas a kid which I loved but I didn't know how damaging it was. So don't do that, also get some cardio every day.

Also you can get novolin for $25 at walmart.

Well yes thats why the whole part is important. The sugar is bound to the fiber. What exactly is "in moderation"? Because having dietary habits high in consumption of stuff like whole fruit and oatmeal can be beneficial for diabetics and basically almost everyone.

It really is hard to say and would require a person to have a controlled portion such as 100g and waiting and testing their blood sugar. Personally I seem to be very sensitive to all sugars so I spike out of control and found it easier to avoid carbs.

But as with any anonymous advice one should take it with a grain of salt and consult a medical professional.

I appreciate your advice. This is how I thought it might be. Annoying maintenance and not the end of the world if you have a cheat meal. Thank you for being so helpful.

Kek. That's why I didn't go for a while. I knew something was up when I was losing weight for no reason.

Dont worry about it user. There's plenty of resources around for diabetics. The world isnt a barren wasteland of diet soda and salad for us anymore and nutritional sciences are advancing. Depending on your diabetes it may even be reversible so I wish you the best.

Carbs is worse than sugars (for me anyway).

>Yes it's the one that's my fault.
As opposed to what? The diabetes that god gives you if you touch yourself at night too often?

Type 1 diabetes you idiot.

God damn it, ask a nutrition specialist. Never take a health advice from 4chink.

>Just drop carbs out entirely. Eat veg meat and fat. Your blood sugar will be more stable throughout the day.

This

>spread out snacks throughout the day learn to graze

NOT this

hey OP

My grandmother was diagnosed with type 2 in her 50s. She is very disciplined and basically cut off starch out of her diet. After 20 years, her condition is all buy self cured.

You have to adhere to a strict diet. No starch, no sugar. Don't eat anything that's seasoned too heavily. Sugar include BBQ sauce slathered on southern BBQ and the like. Of course soda should be completely out of the question.

If your medical service include meeting with a dietitian, do so. Ask a dietitian to make a meal plan for you. If you can't or can't afford to. Just cut off all starch and sugar. Fruit is fine, but don't eat a lot at once, one apple, not a bucket.

to add to it, my grand mother never used insulin because she controlled her diet so well and so strictly.

You have to have a iron discipline for that condition.

Currently there are several very promising beta cell regenerative gene therapy in development and will probably be implemented in the next decade.

Maintain a strict diet and wait for the cure in 10 years OP.

Good luck.

Reminder that diet and exercise does wonder on diabetes. Up to a 1/4 of patients manages to stay off of medications and keep their diabetes in check by exercise and diet alone. Just like said.

Download an audiobook or podcast and start going for walks. You don't have to run a marathon.
Find your country's diabetes association. They'll have brochures and information on what to eat and not eat.

Good luck OP.

A nutrition specialist? I have terrible health insurance and my doctor wants me in and out quickly. No questions. He gets the results and shoos me out the door. There's no fucking nutrition specialist involved certainly.

I'm grateful for the medication he gives me but in terms of further information I'm here searching the internet.

Thank you. I have the no carbs thing in check. I'm thinking pinto beans, brown rice, broccoli, banana, maybe scrambled eggs.

It just sucks how much I have to limit myself. I get it's for my health though.

... okay so what part of

>no starch

you don't get?

Literally no starch. Eat veggies and meat to your content, but no starch, no sugar.

Starch including rice, beans, and all that. Banana is almost 90% starch...

Broccoli is ok

Not going to lie to you. If you follow a strict diet, your condition will get better, but it'll be a long journey, like someone mentioned above, years if not decades.

Autoimmune disease is not a joke.

Since you can't afford medicine or medical services. Not following a strict diet will literally be your death.

No starch, no sugar.

Alright relax. I'm new to this. Every list of ok foods given by my doctor included brown rice and beans.

Ok so I'll eat like a rabbit.

>I have terrible health insurance
Fuck, that sucks. Nothing is worse than bad doctors. Where do you live user?

Canada. I'm looking to move into a better place soon.

>eat meat to your content

not red meat dumbass. don't listen to this moron.

>It just sucks how much I have to limit myself
If you're able to keep the diet and get positive results it will be a BIG motivation for you to continue.

And as I said, go for a walk. It's just such a simple and easy way to improve your health.
