Frog here, what the fuck is it with English food always looking like random stuff thrown hastily on a plate? I mean, I'd eat it but the presentation isn't refined at all. All the foodstuffs on the plate look like they've been cooked with minimal effort as in just thrown on a pan with salt then thrown on a plate.

There is a stereotype (that is mostly prevalent in the rest of Europe) that the English can't cook, their cuisine is bad, and that they only eat tinned food if given the choice.

Ofc as a chef from the UK, I would oppose this - but that is the general consensus.

Honestly, I agree with you - but it does depend on the dish. I've seen tidy English classics and messy French comfort food.

I lived outside of Nice for a year and I do appreciate the French cuisine in a big way. I think that a big plate of messy goodness is just more appealing to a culture based on heavy drinking and long days of dodging having your arms ripped off in a cotton mangle. There's a lot of comfort in feeling your arteries shaking when you're probably gonna die at 50 anyway (northern English perspective)

That does look overcooked, but honesty, roast beef done right is amazing. Probably my favorite meal. A nice rib of beef, cooked medium rare. Gravy made from the roasting juices and some red wine. Crispy golden roast potatoes. Cauliflower cheese, made with thick mature cheese sauce. Light and chewy Yorkshire puddings. And finally some fresh steamed buttered vegetables. It really is the ultimate comfort food.

I love a burger, but Americans will just never know what a good Sunday roast is. Its perfection when done right.
