Why do fractions represent the part of a whole? WHY??? My theory is that in pic related you have 7/9, that means a whole divided in 9 parts times 7: 1/9 x 7, which is equal do 0.77777, so it represents a number that is 0.77777 times smaller than a whole (1).
This can be expressed in pizza related.

>fractions represent the part of a whole >so it represents a number that is 0.77777 times smaller than a whole (1).
Literally the same thing.

Write analysis without the "ysis" part...

stop with this bs, you wouldn't be able to understand that concept without my thread.

what is a real number if its not a fraction or a limit point of a sequence of fractions?
February 8, 2018 - 03:12
you're confused because 7/9 is irrational? it's because we use base 10
February 8, 2018 - 03:25
its more about why we represent the part that we have (7) in the numerator and the whole (9) in the denominator.

Because nobody wants to use approximations
February 8, 2018 - 04:40
how would you do an approximation without fractions?
