So, how many continents are there? 4? 3? 7? 8?

So, how many continents are there? 4? 3? 7? 8?

The correct answer is who cares? The word continent is vapid and meaningless because it depends on the perceived (subjective) size of a landmass relative to others.

There is only one continent, the human continent

this but unironically

New Zealand is a continent too, you fascist pig.

6. Africa, Europe, Asia, N America, S America, Australia.

Antarctica isn't "land"

Fucking anti-NewZealite pig.

NA
SA
Australia
Eursia
Africa
Antarctica

6 continents Europe is the western peninsula of Eurasia not a continent.

fuck off kiwi cunt

>being aussie on a romanian comic image board

There are islands underneath the ice, if the ice were gone the lost weight would cause more land to rise possibly creating a new continent

>Australia
>continent

>Antarctica isn't "land"

the absolute state of Veeky Forums

Probably a flat earther.

Afro-Eurasia
Americas
Oceania
Hitler's Bunker

In that case, which continent is Nicaragua located in?

Antartica is land, you're thinking of the north pole, which is just ice

Continents are socially constructed.
The landmasses, though, are real.

>Islands and land float on water
You fucking retard

two:
1) the vatican
2) rest of the world

1. North America
2. South America
3. Eurasia
4. Africa
5. Oceania
6. Zealandia
7. Kerguelen Plateau
8. Antarctica

north america

They’re either part of Asia or they don’t exist at all

Continents are not strictly geographical. There are seven.

Pic related is the foundational (heh) fact upon which an objective, scientific definition for continents may be derived: those plates which have a sufficiently large percentage of land mass above sea level.

Completely uncontroversial: North America, South America, Australia, Africa, Antarctica (5).

Requires some adjustment and a realization that "human geography" is not pertinent to actual, objective geography /qua/ geography - this is a mistake made by humans who have to project themselves into everything: Eurasia (1).

Some smaller memes which might yet admit of some discussion: Arabia, India (2).

The true answer is thus somewhere between 6 and 8.

They are five

You forgot the Penguin Continent. Unfortunately Penguins are not allowed to participate in the Olympics.

Definitions are critical to answering your question.

OU!

If the Earth were flat, and the SOUTH pole was at the center, would that spread Greenland out enough to be a continent?

That would be sort of cool.

Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania

And the Ice wall surrounding the Flat Earth

protecting us from the white walkers

11 continents: Hapis, Geminia, Pitatia, Thoth, Libris, Americas, Africa, Eurasia, Oceania, Inner Ice Wall, Outer Ice Wall

...

That's really cool.

There are only two continents, the human continent and antarctica.

Antarctica is part of the human continent now.

but only for scientists, in that case space is a continent too

>Antarctica isn't "land"
I love you Veeky Forums

Most words have pretty arbitrary definitions. Doesn't mean they are meaningless. Two different things you retard.

It's funny because it is literally the exact same argument.

>the pacific ocean is land, it's just under water
what do you think ice is you absolute fucking mongrel

so in winter, with enough snowfall, you could say we temporarily lose a few continents

The distinction between ice and land is fake. Consider moons that consist only of ice, that doesn't make them fake. Ice is solid and it is land.

>continent
>noun:
>1. that which doesn't shit all over itself
>2. a big ass continuous landmass

Trying to derive absolute definitions for fucking everything is pointless. The word was coined to convey practical information, not for bean counting semantocrats to masturbate over. Plate tectonics has nothing to do with it, whether I can circumnavigate it easily in my trireme does.

No, just parts of them go a bit underwater.
>moon
clearly in the sky you fucking moron

>he thinks space ISN'T a continent
this is the funniest post I've ever seen on Veeky Forums

>what is isostatic rebound

>Europe, Asia
no

Infinity. It's a spectrum.

Each atom can be considered it's own continent but that's not infinite.

The answer is only one of the three following:

1: 6 if you consider Europe and Asia one continent
2: 7 if you separate them
3: As many as there are tectonic plates

The meme that "The Americas" are one continent is a spic mestizo invention attempting to make themselves relevant.

They are one continent if you count landmasses. Or their language may separate the words for landmasses and continent and it's confusing, like we do in my language. One word for landmass, another for the units that English consider to be continent, but our word for landmass almost sounds identical to the word continent.
There's also the argument that New Zealand is a continent which may have some validity.
And there's nothing wrong with considering Europe to be a continent while also only using Americas, consider the history, Europe as the center of the world while the Americas is a recent invention with the same atttitude towards it from the people in Europe. There is nothing wrong with Europeans being Eurocentric.

OP here, I mean TECHNICALLY they are one continent, hence why I put the line going from Panama. Am not a spicy but a burger
