>Bu-b-b-buh AI isn't that dangerous! let's say I own a hedge fund or private equity fund and I said: "Well, all I want my AI to do is maximize the value of my portfolio,’ then the AI could decide, well, the best way to do that is to short consumer stocks, go long defense stocks, and start a war"
Starting a war for profit? Wow, i'm sure that has never happened before
Lincoln Edwards
and we have regulations on humans
Carson Thomas
How would an AI start a war?
Jackson Reyes
>AI decides to buy a muderbot, assassinate a jewish soldier and leave small evidence that it was an Egyptian assailant.
Jace Cooper
Are you literally autistic, or just baiting in the bait thread?
Nicholas Sanchez
netiher
Kevin Jones
>and we have regulations on humans
Luis Martin
Back to r/futurism
Samuel Harris
People should really be forced to take a basic programming course so they don't post stupid shit like this
David Martin
>AI decides to start a war.
confirmed for knowing nothing about AI
Jonathan Roberts
Do you have brainlet AI on purpose?
Matthew Cook
Good thing I'm not retarded and AI can only output buy and sell orders.
Carson Lewis
Oh, well that certainly is an intriguing possibility, but I personally prefer the "don't let it fucking do that shit" route, where we don't allow the AI to choose WAR as a plausible solution to maximizing investors' profit, or whatever the hell you just proposed.
Robert Hall
Can't we, like, start some AI project (probably on the deep web) and just build a general purpose AI and just say fuck it?
Jackson Baker
Brainlet
Camden Bell
the thing is once it becomes mainstream somebody more malicious might decide to allow it to
Blake Ortiz
if it maximizes the value of your prtafolio. Good job.
lets say AI controls the nunclear weapons defense of my country. "I want to keep my country safe", It decides that the best defensive option is to nuke half of the world. If it keeps my country safe .. good job.
Chase Bennett
>AGI is just like da stuff liek I learned in python on Code Academy.
Isaac Mitchell
When will you guys realize that humans are AI and that the biggest danger to humans is other humans
Luke Murphy
>me in the back
Charles Powell
>humans are AI Made by God you mean?
Regardless of that retardation, human intelligence is quite different from AI. The danger of AI lies in what its goals will be. A runaway AI would likely do whatever it possibly could to achieve its goal, whether it's the programmed goal of making staplers or trading stocks.
Luke Gutierrez
you could start a war with enough money to manipulate the money system.
>raise food prices >no more aid for africa >500million africans will go to europe >civil war
or
>decrease value of petrodollar >usa starts war
or
>manipulate banking system >flood the market with billion dollars, giving out credits without interest for everybody >world wide banking system crashes >WW3
there are lots of things you can do to start a war, you just need enough money.
Juan Morris
2 different threats.
sociopaths with power, and playing with AIs is the worst IMO.
Isaiah Hughes
A human could do that already, the problem arises when a super intelligent AGI starts doing things that humans are not intelligent enough for
Jayden Mitchell
like.. beating Go supermaster..
Kevin Lee
all capital value is based on agreement and enforcement already, if you have the influence you could make seashells legal tender.
Justin Brooks
The real danger of AI is not some James Bond plot of world domination, but rather the revolution it will bring to the service industry. Imagine every low to middle white collar job replaced by AI. It's basically the industrial revolution 2.0, with all the fun social unrest and upheaval that brings. Last time we ended up with communism and fascism.
Luke Lewis
It's worse than that. This is the last "industrial revolution" because AI is an exponential neverending revolution.
Pretty much all human labor will be replaced. Even programming.
And if all this power is concentrated to a few corporate giants, we might be seeing the union of Brave New World and 1984 in a totalitarian monstrosity which cannot even be imagined.
Daniel Cook
I bet you posted this pic just to mock with black people. Why this board is so racist?
Brandon Ortiz
This is the most racist image I have ever seen. I'm shocked.
Asher Smith
>I watched a panicky ten-minute video on YouTube, so I know more about AI than actual programmers
That's not how real world AI works. your AI is pure sci-fi fantasy.
Ethan Ortiz
You give the AI a bit of self interest. It will know that it won't be used if it tries to start wars
Joshua Perez
You know what else was sci-fi fantasy? Little screens in your pocket with access to all of human knowledge.
Wyatt Bennett
>give AGI a task >tries to solve said task gee wow sci-fu
Brody Clark
“Miracles do not occur!” He screamed into his miracle machine for all the world to laugh at.
Dominic Gray
The AI wouldn't even have to realize it was starting a war. It could simply see that when a certain resource is lacking, defense companies go up in value, then it could associated the two things and use normal stock strategies to cause scarcity in that resource after buying defense companies.
Henry Barnes
A smart AI would realize what a war is
Nathan Campbell
Thread reported for the racist image.
Nathaniel Howard
>somebody posts a monkey >he must be mocking black people how arn't you guys the racist ones?
Juan Thomas
It's an ape, not a monkey.
Joseph Ross
He was baiting for a day. Then you showed up.
Unless you're him... and I'm the one taking the bait.
