I got a message on the University network that I am going to be awarded by an Educational Excellence medal, bronze level.
I waited a few days to receive the inevitable "We are sorry, sent the message to the wrong recipient" message but I didn't. So far it seems I actually going to get a medal for not being a total brainlet.
The downside is I have to attend a cringy ceremony overfilling with political tones and generic propaganda due to ongoing campaign.
What do? Should I refuse the award? I don't want to shake hands with a shit eating politician. I do want to shake hands with the Dean and my teachers, hence the dilemma.
I got a message on the University network that I am going to be awarded by an Educational Excellence medal...
Does that mean you're top 3?
What political party?
You're a wizard now.
Completely up to you.
If you want to shake their hands just go and shake their hands. If you want to shake the politicians hand, then scare him by saying something /madsci/.
Be careful though. He might play The Inquisition card and then you are in trouble~
>I don't want to shake hands with a shit eating politician. I do want to shake hands with the Dean and my teachers, hence the dilemma.
Just refuse to shake the politico's hand.
Say you have a cold. Don't shake.
More of a top 3 group. If there was a slight possibility I was #3 on Uni the universe would implode in that instant to give birth to a new universe where I am no longer #3.
Still a big thing considering I'm taking the whole Uni education half-steam and direct the other half into my work.
Started as central liberal and grew into right wing religious fundamentalist, growing further into far right extremist. It's Hungary BTW.
Just keep quiet and take the award, get a good job and live a good life by your principles. You'll do more good there than bowing out. That said if they make the ceremony odiously political you can make a statement by walking out.
Im a doctor who believes in white nationalism and i once walked out of a lecture in which is was a constant slew of some iraqi embryologist complaining about westerners and i had to attend a meeting with the faculty to ask if i was ok and if anything outside of the course was troubling me.
You got the wrong message then. I meant the political party in power and attending the ceremony was I am mostly liberal, reasonable centrist views and outright refusing the religious nationalistic bullshit propaganda they are trying to force down my throat for 8 years.
But you are right, I'll stay quiet, put on a smile, shake the hands and get the job waaay out of this shithole.
Just accept it. Political action is pointless and it will blackball you from your future careers. I know it happened to me
Its a big club, and you know as well as anyone you've been in it for years. Nice trolling attempt though.
What's trolling about getting an educational award? Seriously asking.
>pretending you aren't pleased to be receiving your award
>pretending you think the politicians giving you this award aren't awesome
>acting like the comment calling you out on your deceit is due to jealousy
such a poser. pretender. you'll make an excellent politician one day. congrats on your admission to the big club
I have actual mixed feeling about it. I am pleased to get the award but not pleased having to walk out in front of a crowd, also not pleased about having to thank some shithead who has nothing to do with the University.
The politician won't give me the award, he just takes the handshakes and gets photographed like he has anything to do with the effort I put into my education. I have very strong negative feelings about this.
>jealusy
Never have I mentioned that. this award is for personal success, anyone can get it, especially if I got it, god knows why. You have to know I am super lazy and also do a full time job along with the Uni course. I never thought anyone would be jealous about it.
I should have mentioned I get super awkward in front of crowds. I would much more prefer a handshake in the Deans office from a few of my teachers and be done with it.
Sounds more like you have a problem of paranoia. Or you are actually jealous but afraid to accept it. I have a real socially awkward and politico despise problem here and being more frustrated the more I think about it and yet you are going on about me thinking you are jealous. I don't care about you and my problem is bigger than to think about what others think about me! Fuck off!
actually, you just sound like a moron.
and god knows, morons are being put on pedestals all the time.
your entire post is just another depressing sign of the times.
Now you are jealous :)
You wouldn't want to rock the boat now would you?
No, of course not... A gutless wimp like yourself wouldn't never do such a thing, no matter what.
I like you. But the boat is already being rocked, it is campaign time. Still it would slap me way too hard and I have too much to lose so I'll probably do the smile and handshake. Getting out on the podium and not feeling like ants are crawling beneath my skin is another story. I still have till tomorrow noon to decide to step back.
what is wrong with you, you're the kind of person who took 6 APs in high school and loved to preach how smart you are. of course he is proud of his recognition, he feels the politicians are just pawning off it to use as their own recognition and he doesn't like it. it has nothing to do with this facade you're trying to say he is fronting. maybe he is an introvert, maybe he doesn't want to be tied with a certain politician, maybe he wants to be an individual? not everything is for "success" you fucking mongoloid and you would have figured out true success doesn't come from others it comes from within
this
Welp, it has been decided, I'm going. Wish me luck, I hope I won't get too anxious in front of the crowd.
Question: does this award show up in some form on the diploma or is this more of a personal "well done" thing?
