Do high voltage powerlines cause cancer?

Extremely low-frequency (0-300 Hz) electromagnetic fields (EMFs) generated by power lines, wiring and home appliances are ubiquitous in our environment. All populations are now exposed to EMF, and exposure to EMF may pose health risks. Some of the adverse health effects of EMF exposure are lipid peroxidation and cell damage in various tissues.
depends on distance and power of course
put ur nuts on one and post results but I bet you'll get something at least as fucked up as cancer
What would a master electrician know about medicine?
Modern civilization was a mistake.
You have to go back.
50 Hz even with significant HF harmonics (that are all measurable) cannot produce the energy to cause mutation
but maybe ive been lied to
Sure. Easily. Corona discharge breaks down any close by the line materials (1mm of distance away per kV generally) into a smorgasbord of carcinogenic goodies. It's one of the primary long term hazards of being a lineman, or poor enough to live under them.
Go live in a mud hut by yourself, I'll gladly take your electricity.
It has never been scientifically proven.
Because the principles behind high voltage lines are relatively simple, if it was bad, it would've been proven by now. So I don't think it ever will be.
I don't live under them but they run behind my house where I walk my dog and not only can you hear them but you actually feel weird and nauseous when you're walking under them.
No, it's not about thermal energy. You basically have an infinite number of molecules or molecular regions that could have a resonant mode in common with frequencies being emitted. For instance its been found that common microwave frequencies may interfere with a protein responsible for DNA repair. Now low frequency emf is more difficult to pin down, but there is evidence that it does somehow affect cellular machinery too, such as the overall action of calcium channels.
retard!!!
>do high voltage powerlines cause cancer?
No.
Can high voltage power lines be adapted to stop shitposting of /x/-caliber crap on Veeky Forums?
>you actually feel weird and nauseous when you're walking under them.
It is certainly possible that YOU do. It has nothing to do with anything coming from the power lines.
>the year is 1900
>smoking
It has never been scientifically proven.
Because the principles behind lung disease are relatively simple, if it was bad, it would've been proven by now. So I don't think it ever will be.
Smoking is a shit comparison here. The epidemiological evidence for the link between smoking and lung cancer was overwhelming decades before the molecular mechanism was understood.
There is no such epidemiological evidence for EMF exposure. You're proposing a harm that has never been demonstrated to be real.
>a master electrician just told me this and i'm skeptical
What an weird way to say "I just came up with this"
>No, it's not about thermal energy.
well it kinda is, if it doesnt have the energy to affect your cells, it wont affect your cells.
>You basically have an infinite number of molecules or molecular regions
you dont have an infinite number of anything you spaz
>...that could have a resonant mode in common with frequencies being emitted.
the guiding principle behind a microwave oven, except a microwave oven produces significantly more electromagnetic radiation than a powerline or cell phone
>For instance its been found that common microwave frequencies may interfere with a protein responsible for DNA repair
found by whom? sources?
>Now low frequency emf is more difficult to pin down, but there is evidence that it does somehow affect cellular machinery too
again, sources?
don't get baited into it, that's just VGCC user again
Oh boy it's you
how could EMF potentially cause cancer or pose health risks?
the most plausible hypothesis i've ever been able to think of is that maybe it fucks with the blood brain barrier and carcinogens that normally wouldn't be able to exit the bloodstream are able to get into brain cells - might explain the almost invisible uptick in brain cancers with EMF exposure.
I looked into the study I posted; it isn't great. This next one is better.

Extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field exposure enhances inflammatory response and inhibits effect of antioxidant in RAW 264.7 cells.
In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number and variety of electronic devices that emit electromagnetic waves. Because people live and work in close proximity to these pieces of electrical equipment, there is growing concern surrounding the destruction of homeostasis by electromagnetic field exposure. In the present study, the effects of 60Hz 0.8mT extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMF) on a macrophage cell line (RAW 264.7) were examined...
...These results suggest that an ELF-EMF amplifies inflammatory responses through enhanced macrophage activation and can decrease the effectiveness of antioxidants.
This thread is just bots and stratcom shills right?
> extremely low frequency
>300Hz
Stop posting and an hero already
that and zero hz doesn't produce anything
