You can smoke pretty much any meats. If you think you'll do a lot of it, it's for sure worth it, but if you think it will only be a once or twice a year thing it's not worth it at all.

I have the masterbuilt digital and I like it. I think I paid @$200.00 for it at sam's club. It's easy to rig up a separate fire box so you can cold smoke with it, so there's that too.

I have one and it works fine, lots of smoke, I like that it also has a digital meat thermometer that you can set to a specific temperature that the smoke will go off when it hits

You might have a problem with doing that because your smoke wood will need to be replaced periodically. The advantage with electric is you don't have to worry about maintaining the fire, but you still have to add the smoke wood.
