Imagine every day you work for someone, sure the money is awesome but you hate it. This user likely makes around 12+ an hour. Do you know how hard it is to find a job where you make OVER 7/h? I have been looking. The only places that will pay you over 7 are places that fucking suck and the management doesn't fucking care how they treat you. Walmart, Sams, Costco... That's why factory jobs are so high looking for people and firing. I have a feeling that these people don't ever get fired vs quitting.

I did it for 8 years. At the time I enjoyed it.

But looking back it was actually a waste of time. You give up so much and there is just no need to. Working 16 hour shifts and having your boss bitch because you take a 20 minute break, getting shit because you dare try and take a weekend off, being paid the bare minimum, being spoken to in a certain way because thats 'how it happens in the industry'.

It's all wrong. Theres no need for it to be that way. Do I get the same 'buzz' working in finance as a kitchen? Probably not. But thats more than offset by the quality of life I gained. It is far more rewarding to keep cooking as a passion and get a job that allows you to actually go to restaurants on a saturday night rather than being in the kitchen sweating over a grill.

I have a handful of friends that have desk jobs and they say they hardly have to work a lot of times and spend a lot of it on facebook and youtube

There's a reason I keep my shitty coffee shop job. $15 + tips (2 bucks or so an hour) and health benefits plus sick/vacation. Sucks when when you don't have a college education.

I'm 3 months in to a graduate program. I barely do any work at all. I regularly ask for more work but just dont get it.

My boss is away this week, so I went in on Monday and did 8-1 before taking the rest of the day off to go shopping, today I worked at home which involved sending a few emails and watching the CEO in a parliamentary select committee whilst sat in a nice coffee shop trying some of their guest espresso varieties. Tomorrow I will go in and do a proper days work, Thursday is a team meeting which is 10-3 with free pizza for lunch, friday work from home where I will do zero work.

Its not really very rewarding, and in 2 months I move to my next placement on the scheme, but it pays £30000 for entry level, which is the same as a head chef in the restaurant I last worked at.

Sam's is offering 10.50 an hour in the cafe. As much as I hate working in food, I'll go for that

at least when you aint got shit to do I bet they don't mind you listening to music. As long as I got music or something in the background, I'm good.

Trained this dude in the bakery where I work, which entails mixing and cutting dough, baking it to make bread, you know, what you'd expect a bakery to do. After 5 days of training he opens his first day and does absolutely nothing and kinda just shrugs when someone asks him if he has bread to serve. He lasted one day.

Totally depends, I worked at four restaurants and got free meals at two of then of them. Another was a pizza place where I got free slices but not the best stuff. At the fourth I used to eat off the line while working though. Some restaurants have very strict guidelines, particularly corporatized chains.

There's a girl in my dept whose whole job is burning CDs and printing reports, putting them in envelopes, and taking them to the mail room. This is entry level stuff, and she's gotta make twice what that nursing home cook guy is making.
