What's your most recent bottle Veeky Forums?
For me it's Toki, pretty good for a cheap nip whisky.

Didn't like that one. Color was weak and tasted a lot like a cheap scotch
Most recent was Blanton's single barrel which has become my go-to
>tasted a lot like a cheap scotch
Really? I've never yet had a Japanese whiskey that tasted anything like scotch. They always taste like some sort of burning garbage.
again
Oh, my most recent was probably Laphroaig, whatever their current basic "cask strength" bottling is. Lately I've been finishing off my Hennessy XO.
Japanese whisky is like German Bourbon. They don't have peat bogs in Japan, so that shit tastes like 'caramel' 'fruity' garbage like MaCallan 18 oak.
>color was weak
found the casual
Much Caramel coloring
Does scotch really get good if I start paying $60 a bottle for it?
if you don't like scotch it doesn't matter how much you pay for it.
Just order a glass of Lagavulin at a whiskey bar. If you hate it then stick to burbon or rye
My last bottle was Lagavulin 16. I don't know if it was worth $100, but it was pretty fucking good. I drank it in about 4 or 5 days.
Ardbeg An Oa. Hope it doesn't end up replacing the 10yo. Not bad, but really doesn't pack the same punch.
I like jap whisky
I'm a bit of a newbie, but any single malt scotch is usually good. Finlaggan's just about 40 bucks. Good price considering there are one-malts selling for thousands.
Nice, never seen that brand. How is it?
Not so much if it's blended. There are a few different varieties of single malt. The less peaty malts are more approachable. Glenlivet is a decent starter.
>Color was weak
No shit it's only bourbon Cask blend shit, an overpriced one at that.
Yes but that's not one of them. Where are you from?
I've talked to reps before and each one tells me it's not, core lineup will be 10, An Oa, Uige and Corry.
Try the 8 Year if you get a chance, I liked it much more than the 16 Distillers Reserve and it's over $50 cheaper.
If your able to get Finlaggan or Ileach Cask Strength, they're affordable young CS whisky with some good palate.
It's basically young Lagavulin however they're not allowed to say it is because of restrictions.
How do I go in a liquor store alone without feeling like an alcoholic?
Through the front door.
t.weeb or some fag who loves Lost in Translation
Yoichi single malt. It’s nice. To be honest I don’t know what’s a good whisky should taste like.
...
Be honest, do you ever leave your house? What kind of fucking question is that?
How much do I have to pay to get a decent Scotch with lots of peat? Where do I start?
Nikka Coffey Grain was my last purchase. Got it about 2 weeks ago and have already ordered 5 more bottles. The best whiskey I've ever had.
Bought a pint of Jameson to celebrate a promotion

How do I learn to drink whisky?

Short & Weak
Do what said. Go to a whiskey bar and tell the bartender you're a newfag who wants to see what his palette is before he blows $100 on a bottle.
Does whiskey ever get good or we all just pretending?
At right around the $100 mark. Yes it does.
>I am an autistic adult with the mentality of a child
Or maybe he likes Japanese whisky, you fucking retard.
Try some different types of whisky to begin with. A knowledgeable bartender would be a big help with this.
Try some bourbon, some rye, and some scotch and see what you like. Once you get a baseline, try some varieties of that particular type of whisky.

The height of hilarity.
Why are you posting a 25 dollar bottle for it?
There's plenty of great scotch in the 35-50 dollar range. Balvenie 12 DW, Ardbeg 10, Laphroaig 10, Laphroaig QC, Glenfiddich 15, Macallan 10/12, Glenfarclas, Aberlour 12. etc
Why is Makers Mark such shit?
I’ve never been to a bar before. Are we talking like the bar at chili’s or is there a certain kind you need to go to
A whisky bar, dear boy, a whisky bar.
Whiskey bars specialize in, surprisingly, whiskey and will have a better selection than your average watering hole. Google can help you find one near you.
Take a shower? Wear clean clothes? Go there sober?
Huh, sounds interesting but I avoid bars because I don’t like being surrounded by degenerates
Nice, Jameson is a great normie whiskey
Fuck off back to Portland, kiddo
Actually I bought it because nips seem to artfully craft things
>I don’t like being surrounded by degenerates
Why are you on Veeky Forums?
2 many dykes 4 me
soy boi status.
makers is pretty good, why are you so shit?
lol
Where would you want to see a new distillery open, lads?
Scotland. They just don't have enough.
Not my favorite.
Elaborate?
I'm no whisky conoisseur but it tasted more bitter than I prefer.
t. alcoholics
Got some Woodford Double Oaked, pretty nice, smells like brown sugar and tastes like spicy maple
and lots of oak
I wish someone here in America would attempt to recreate the single pot still style. We've got distilleries imitating the single malt Scotches; why not do the same for Irish whiskies?
What's that like with coke and ice?
...
I have a bottle of that atm. Nice stuff.
I tried the regular Famous Grouse a while back and liked it. How different is the Black?
What's Veeky Forums's opinion on Long John whiskies?
Willett Pot Still Reserve
Not bad at all
...
Problem with Willett?
How much centiliters of whisky a day is OK health-wise? I'm talking average every day here, not "special occasions".
I've had some bad drinking habits these past couple weeks so I'm trying to set some limits on myself like I used to but I'm not sure how to do it for the whisky.
For wine I set it to 25CL (12CL x2 more or less) a day and for whisky I'm thinking of doing 8CL max (4CL x2) - thoughts? How do you guys do it?
No more than one glass with a top-off later. also, only one type of drink per night. otherwise it turns into a tuesday night drunk show and fuck being that kind of asshole
I would say no more that two standard units a day, which is 1.5 oz per unit of hard alcohol, and a max of fifteen a week.
Seems to go in line with what I'm thinking of going for.
Bird dog is cheap and delicious shit.
I love the peach, will have to try the maple
I signed up for flaviar recently and this was the first thing I grabbed.
Bourbon isn't what I meant here en.wikipedia.org
>Single pot still whiskey is a style of Irish whiskey made by a single distillery from a mixed mash of malted and unmalted barley distilled in a pot still...The term should not be confused with the theoretical concept of whiskey produced solely in a pot still (which would also apply to single malt whiskey as well as some examples of pot still bourbon and rye whiskey).
They won't be able to call it "single pot still whiskey" because it's an Ireland-specific legal term, but I want someone to make a malted and unmalted barley whiskey over here.
I'm sure you'll see it done in North America eventually.
If Jack Daniels can make a 100% rye whisky or a distillery in Alberta can make a single malt whisky, it's just a matter of time.
It’s smokier. I like it and for $33 a handle it fits my budget too.
I'll have to try it once I polish off the bottle of Teachers I grabbed a couple of weeks ago.
Horrible. A waste. Way too much pear/apple taste, makes me slightly sick. I liked Highland Park 12, Ardbeg 10 and Bulliet Bourbon. Don't know why this was recommended as a beginner scotch.
Give some recs.
>beginner scotch
Because it's popular, and therefor widely available, cheap, and not super peaty, so will appeal to a wider demographic. Same with Glenlivet.
Lagavulin 16 is good if you can afford it.
I don’t know what you were expecting. Glenfiddich 12 is a great choice to introduce people to scotch.
From what you enjoy, I would recommend Springbank 10 or Talisker 10, the latter being my second favorite scotch.
>for a good time, make it Suntory time
I've been using this to make some Old Fashioned lately.
What are some of you cu/ck/'s recommended cocktail Whiskey?
Buffalo Trace is good. For rye I recommend Forty Creek or Canadian Club Chairman's Select.
Canada, specifically Ontario once they fix their stupid taxation issues for distillers
Scotland already has a half dozen opening this year including Ardnahoe on Islay which is being overseen by Jim McEwan from Bruichladdich.
Also Brora, Port Charlotte and Rosebank are coming back. Scotland is good.
>Scottish distilleries
That was a joke user. Seeing some more Canadian distillers doing runs aside from rye would tickle me pink.
