I like it alot.

But, in all seriousness. It's excellent. I've naturally gotten to reread the Daodejing and the Zhuangzi over and over again because they always finds a way help with the mental hurdles I'm habituated to getting into. It's amazingly helpful if you can get into it.

It (as does Ruism too, to an extent) also possesses a materialism which is sorely lacking in most other schools of thought, even the highest ones. It's the only one that is concerned with *how* we manage to do things, and not simply the correct way to do them. It's the only one (aside from Animism or Shinto) that doesn't consider humans to be something alien to animals or other nonhuman things; so it feels like the other side of the coin from the Judeo-Christian, Indo-Iranian and Graeco-Roman traditions, retaining features of precivilized humanity that those didn't retain (though this is the case all around East Asia). Its way of being above life by not being above life, of not having problems by being open to problems, is fantastic.

Should I even bother with German translations of an asian language? No Longer Human was an absolute pain to read.

Wilhelm is good albeit biased

What do I need to read to start down this road?

Read this translation recently. Helped me get a lot more out of things. The comparisons to western philosophies were well-done. I think being older makes me appreciate Taoism more too.

Ya. They discuss multiple translations of the title in the introduction. Guess they went with that one so people wouldn't be scared off that it says its a philosophical translation. They also propose The Classic of the Way and Virtue and The Classic of the Field and its Focus as translations which I thought was interesting.

Also forgot to add that Daoism, in conjunction with Ruism and Foism, form a whole system of human relation: to one's self (Foism), between people and to culture (Ruism), and with what's outside humans and nature (Daoism); or in, between and out.

>The Classic of the Field and its Focus
Huh, translating Dao as Field is something I hadn't seen before. Focus is a pretty useful one too.

user, this kind of thing has been happening for years in this site. Just carry on and hide and the posts linked to it.

What is Ruism and Foism? Never heard of them before.

I helped me overcome a long depressive phase along with cycling, leaning on a girl who took an interest in me and a Brendon Burchard video (about dumb goals I think, made me cry). Also I started Qigong because of it - until I fully recovered and got sick of everything calm. Furthermore it sparkled my interest in philosophy, which I'm now studying. I don't think that it would be exaggerated if I say Laozi changed my life.

More specific names for Confucianism and Chinese Buddhism. Ruism in particular is the more accurate term for Confucianism, as it's closer to the Chinese and what the school centers on.

I don't get it

Holy shit this blog post.

As I've been saying for quite a while now:
1/ Read the Dao De Jing
2/ Compare all available translations
3/ ????
4/ Profit
