Recommend me some poets that are as raw and exciting as Bukowski.

When I read a Bukowski poem it's like a shot of adrenaline and inspiration straight into my bloodstream. It's really amazing.

Who are some poets or writers who do this for you?

Prepare your ass, OP.

...

Yeah I know.
I honestly don't give a shit about Bukowski's personality or his cult following.
I just like his poems. I enjoy reading them, is that so bad?

i was first introduced to bukowski through his novels, which i really liked for the most part.

then a couple of years ago i bought a big collection of his poems, "the pleasures of the damned". and i was a little surprised to find that around 95% of them were basic, obvious, cringey junk.

some of the 5% are good, some of them particularly so. but overall it was a massive disappointment.

Doesn't his poem just get your blood pumping though?
Show Biz

I can't have it
and you can't have it
and we won't
get it

so don't bet on it
or even think about
it

just get out of bed
each morning

wash
shave
clothe
yourself
and go out into
it

because
outside of that
all that's left is
suicide and
madness

so you just
can't
expect too much

you can't even
expect

so what you do
is
work from a modest
minimal
base

like when you
walk outside
be glad your car
might possibly
be there

and if it is-
that the tires
aren't
flat

then you get
in
and if it
starts--you
start.

and
it's the damndest
movie
you've ever
seen
because
you're
in it--

low budget
and
4 billion
critics

and the longest
run
you ever hope
for
is

one
day.

no, just feels too obvious and isn't saying anything hugely interesting, and doesn't have enough of a poetic flowy tanginess to it to make up for where it lacks in other areas.

let me look for one i like, hold on

He seems to be talking to Shakespeare here.

From the tempest:
"
Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep"

And from Macbeth:
"Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more"

And As You Like It:

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts"

Just as Shakespeare often compared life to a play, Bumowski is comparing it to a movie

this is literally as bad as anything rupi kapur hhas written

>Just as Shakespeare often compared life to a play, Bumowski is comparing it to a movie
is this b8?

How dare you. I dislike Rupi Kaur as much as the next guy, but Bukowksi is nothing like her. Give me some evidence if you want to argue.

this one is good though it's in a less "poetic" style

well they both write shitty free verse poetry prolifically about single theme mostly centering on a protagonist or the author themselves against an uncaring society, they both never evolve or offer anything further than the introduction of this motif, they both don't understand meter, they both have shitty hipster cult followings, they both ape a style that was done a million times better by their predecessors
.

but I think to me the biggest similarity is the fact that they both shit out a new book of whiny shitty poetry every time they're short on cash.

this one is one of the 5%

shoes

when you're young
a pair of
female
high-heeled shoes
just sitting
alone
in the closet
can fire your bones;
when you're old
it's just
a pair of shoes
without
anybody
in them
and
just as
well.

bukowski is dead bro

thank god

allen ginsberg or is that too obvious of a suggestion.

is this bait? It literally is just rupi kaur tier, perhaps even worse.

If that's one of the best... It's just a trite and shallow observation put into pedestrian prose with capitals removed and slashed at will by extra line breaks with the creative hatchet that apparently sat in absolute solitude in Burpkowski's poetic toolbox. If this was a calligram, it would evoke either some sort of hideous failed sausage or a disjointed body fell from a roof.

this would be a good poem if it
was
written in
full
sentences
and not broken up
into random autistic farts
in an attempt to make it look
deeper

i think its a bait but im happier for it, " life is rounded by a sleep" damn i need to start on shakespear soon and cunts like this help plebs like me, but obviously the comparison is not just, bukowski is obviously talking about don't let your dreams get out of hand because in reality you aren't going to be shit.
