Contemporary Non-Plebian Tier Sci-Fi

Can you guys suggest any contemporary Science Fiction novels that are excellent?

Maybe Vandermeer?

Is that an author?

Yeah, Jeff Vandermeer. he's mostly famous for 'Annihilation'

Speaker for the Dead
Fire on the Deep if you're looking for more conceptual stuff
idk what you mean exactly by "contemporary" but Neuromancer is required reading, along with some PKD
Snow Crash while we're on the subject, Stephenson makes cyberpunk prose an art
Some people will recommend Ancillary Justice. I didn't enjoy it personally, but that might just be me.
inb4 >genre fiction

Literally nothing on that list is contemporary

OP, check out Alasdair Reynolds

Currently reading The Algebraist, more than a decade old but some good prose, well-paced, at least one memorable character, good humor. RIP Mr. Banks. You may have been overrated but you were still great.

blindsight by watts

you can get it for free on his website too

The Three Body Problem and its sequels

Too Like Lightning

one more for blindsight, also his rifters series (still not as good as blindsight imo)

Thanks I really appreciate it.

>Snow Crash while we're on the subject, Stephenson makes cyberpunk prose an art

OP, if you love Rick and Morty browsing, reddit, you should listen to this guy.

Engines of the Gods. Alien Archaeology.

Ironically I do.

Read Peter F. Hamilton
good futurist shit with decent characters and intricate plots.

Don't bother with the reality dysfunction though.
the ending was horseshit.
read fallen dragon and pandoras star.
the mandel trilogy is good too

Define "contemporary"

Most of the authors that guy cited are still alive so how are they not contemporary?

Why are genrefags so afraid of reading old books?

To Kill a Mockingbird is contemporary?

That one doesn't count. She's halfway to Jesus already.

She's alive, though.

Embassytown - China Mieville
The Kefahuchi Tract trilogy - M John Harrison
The Culture series - Iain M. Banks
The Sprawl trilogy/The Bridge trilogy - William Gibson

Don't know if contemporary, but my favourite sci-fi novel is "Gateway" by Frederick Pohl
