I'd also like to know if there's any correlation between IQ and creativity.

I would argue that having too high of an IQ would get in the way of writing a masterpiece. You don't want some hamfist writing out his philosophical fantasies.

Why not? IQ is actually a fucking meme at this point. There are plenty of autists with high IQs that can't write worth shit. Writing is something that can be made better, so even if you start off at a disadvantage you can always improve.

Does he watch Rick and Morty?

>writing requires high IQ
You'd make an excellent writer.

I heard you have to have a very high IQ to understand that cartoon.

the answer is no, but Veeky Forumstards dont really believe facts or statistics.

but a high IQ isnt a guarantee of anything either

if you have a low (read: average) iq you might be able to get away with sentimentalist poetry, travel writing, basically autobiographical type shit, but only if you lived an interesting life otherwise.

I don't think so. Verbal intelligence is crucial in any form writing (obviously), and there are other aspects of intelligence that are required in order to write good fiction, such as inter- and intrapersonal skills and the ability to abstract.

Good stories, or good nonfiction for that matter, don't exist in a vacuum. They always relate to the real world in some way, and for that to occur the writer has to have an uncanny ability to observe reality, society and human behaviour, detect broader patterns in his observation and distill those patterns of behaviour into something that's abstract, yet instinctively recognizable. That distilled essence is then cast onto his fictional world and characters, or his philosophy. All great writers do this. Now this process may happen subconsciously (it probably does at least partially) but a dummy isn't going to pull it off well enough to create a masterpiece.

IIRC the psychological trait openness (as used in the big 5 model) describes both creativity and intellectual curiosity, and a number of studies have been done on how this trait correlates with intelligence.

Here's a start:

I'm gonna take a shit, but I'm sure you can find more.

Do any if you guys know if measured IQ is more likely to increase or decrease after childhood? :S

Yes, via spatial IQ. Creativity is also mainly associated to individualistic European societies and related to evolutionary environment where problem solving was selected for to increase the chance of survival in harsh climates.

>falling for the IQ meme
Fucking Christ, dude, IQ doesn't matter unless you're actually retarded. If you want to write, then write. You can even get help from people if you want critique or advice or even someone to collab with.

You'll never accomplish anything if you keep obsessing over IQ. Stop being such a defeatist.

Masterpieces are made through the ability to condense huge swaths of information and experience into narrative, human characterizations, and the lyrical sensibilities to convey all of the above poetically without stretching it too far to the point of being obscure, ambiguous, or unreadable.

You can probably get one masterpiece in your lifetime if you really work at it, using research to supplement whatever life experience you lack, while training your lyricism on writing practices emulating past greats, before building your own style.

>Aaron shilling his crap on Veeky Forums again
That video where you sit in some basement pretending there's a friend off-camera talking to you is pretty amusing.

>tfw 170 V 164Q GRE ~140 IQ
high enough to dream big, not high enough to actually do anything world changing

All great writers have been average IQ brainlets, otherwise they would have gone into STEM :)

...

you guys think it's a meme but trust me it's real to us chem eng's

whoa, might wanna take the governor off your engine there buddy

then argue it pansy barnicle

I want to thank all the High IQ individuals out there currently pumping out masterpiece after masterpiece.

My backlog is now just so full with so many modern masterpieces. Every day when I'm reading I'm just constantly blown away by the genius being shared with us by these high IQ individuals.

It appears that some high IQ individuals are even in this very thread. Thank you so much for your work. I can't believe I share an internet forum with you. That must be why Veeky Forums is so replete with thoughtful posts. Oh, I'm just so giddy to witness all this genius!

your welcome ;)

Yes, just look at Stephen King.

The ideal is someone in the slightly above average 115-125 IQ range who is well read, hard working, and tries to stretch their intellect as far as it can go. That person will be close enough to the average to be able to relate to and understand humankind, and have the emotional IQ necessary to create something beautiful but also intelligent.

Do you watch high IQ shows like Rick and Morty too desu?

No, I haven't passed the requisite tests in order to do so. The commercials are very promising, though.

To be fair, the humor is very cleverly written and uses a lot of scientific and philosophical concepts that the average person is not intelligent enough to comprehend.

I've always more or less had the same thought, that 150+ IQ mumbling autists would rather spend time studying complicated maths or other stemlord subjects rather than writing.

ASSHOLE CONSULTING.COM

Love this guy desu

peaks at 21-23, starts to fade at a faster rate after 27

The third kind is the madness of those who are possessed by the Muses; which taking hold of a delicate and virgin soul, and there inspiring frenzy, awakens lyrical and all other numbers; with these adorning the myriad actions of ancient heroes for the instruction of posterity. But he who, having no touch of the Muses' madness in his soul, comes to the door and thinks that he will get into the temple by the help of art - he, I say, and his poetry are not admitted; the sane man disappears and is nowhere when he enters into rivalry with the madman.

All the high IQ STEM people I know enjoy lowest common denominator literature and film, and have kitschy aesthetic preferences.

He's pretty funny. He'd be a friend in real life if he werent in ME or wherever

>IQ

Now this is a book i'd read on the train

IQ is socialised, so is "literature".

chem engineering is barely STEM, do something hard.

> I see a difference in IQ between developed and poor countries. Therefore the developed countries have higher IQ due to natural selection.

This is your logic.

lol.

like most of the people in this thread you are talking right out of your ass.

>>scientistic fatalism

Yes, because IQ is a measurement of many different facets of intelligence. There's no such thing as linear intellect. The fact of the matter is that the mind isn't as quantifiable as anyone would have you believe and you can be a brilliant thinker without being a genius.

I've posted this in other threads, but... Yeats's immediate family thought he was retarded. Salinger had an IQ of 104. Most folktales (and I would sincerely consider many of them to be masterpieces) were composed by illiterate peasants who sat around in their own shit and believed in fairies.

Designing an entertaining story or creating a beautiful image requires talent much more than it requires intelligence. This shouldn't be of much consolation, though--talent is rarer

Plot twist: He is the head writer for the show, Dan Harmon

Talent for what?

>dumbass detected

That's an assumption based on your opinions. Who are you to say that someone with a high IQ would be more interested in maths rather than studying philosophy, psychology, or other abstract schools of thought?

One could surmise that they would naturally be good at it from a young age and thus more likely pursue it at higher levels.

By that logic alone, they would be equally likely to pursue any field, since they're good at everything.

Nha when you get over the ~160 IQ u just lose the will to live

DELET THIS

My friend went on a date with an engineer once and she asked him what films/books he likes.

He answered that they weren't useful so he didn't watch films or read unless it was an engineering manual.

He didn't understand why she didn't find him charming.

Who gives a shit what women think?

way to miss the point autismo.

I can guarantee that everyone in this thread who thinks they're above intelligence or looks down on people will NEVER accomplish anything close to their dreams in their lives.

Creative people tend to be smart, but smart people are generally not creative. So creativity correlates with intelligence, but intelligence does not correlate with creativity.

He's right though. The guy should see value in books, but not because a woman thinks less of him for not doing it.

What if I only clutch girls in their shit-ditch?
Otherwise it would be much more worth it to make sure women are as unaroused as humanly possible before you vomit ballsnot in them because the ovaries would be closer to your penis
That sounds like backwards evolution

Chem E here, good writers are more intelligent than either of us. Your intelligence has been channeled into an avenue to win bread for your boss.
