Read Aime Cesaire's A Tempest. It's his rewriting the play to make it about colonialism (Julie Taymor was fully aware of it when she directed the movie)

Prospero was depicted as a colonial tyrant to caliban, Ariel and Ferdinand; using his power to oppress them.
Caliban's monologue show anti-imperialist feelings.
And in the end caliban has learned none of the language of prospero except that used to curse him.
Also, in the end everyone leaves the island to return to where they belong.
