Not looking for
>hamfisted space operas
>futuristic noir aping blade runner films
>"AI are people too" themed works

You have already read the best there is, move on to another genre

>A Canticle for Leibowitz

What I came here to suggest.

Also, in addition to what 10270098 suggested, Piers Anthony and Isaac Asimov

Read Lem, the best sci-fi author in my opinion

Frankenstein by Mary Shelly

Kefahuchi Tract series, particularly if you liked Roadside Picnic.

The story is very good. Every book was better than the last. It reads much more like a single book than four episodic installments. I thought book one was far better than average sf/f, but it didn't seem quite like the masterpiece I was expecting. I started to see it in the second book and was convinced by the time I finished the fourth.

Ashes, Ashes by Rene Barjavel.

Blindsight by Peter Watts

The Culture of Critique by Kevin MacDonald.

Is that the one with the shapeshifters?

that's because it is a single book, split into four volumes

STAR SHIP TROOPERS

Gormenghast
Perdido street station

Neuromancer

Stanislaw Lem, especially his later works.
Solaris, The Invincible, His Master's Voice, Return from the Stars

buuuuh hurrr *slaps himself in the ass* i'm retardeddd

You should read The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu.

oh, and also check out The Cyberiad from the same author for something more humorous and light hearted

what's the big deal with book of the new sun? i always get so eager to read it when i see someone posting about it but i don't know why it's so highly regarded.
