Orphans of the Storm is the GOAT. Griffith is superior to any 20th century writers.

Abraham Lincoln is his second best film

Griffith is one of the scant few to achieve simultaneous directness and indirectness. In doing so, he creates overlapping layers that under careful examination elicit independent meanings

>film

Griffith mastered facets of form and content then stripped them away to distill essence. He mastered the psychology of the screen then found it was superficial for getting to the core for the photographic image itself belied innumerable meanings. He bared humanity to ideology and motivation.

Griffith is the only one to TRULY have probed man's folly in the conquest of truth. In his works, he imparts the futility of man's virtue, the hypocrisy of mankind.
If you don't believe, just look at the parallels between Birth of a Nation, and the Obama administration.

Of course it took a God to answer life's greatest questions

Capturing the construct and essence of a layered reality stripped of artifice; juxtaposition reaching wider sum

In lavish design of grand authenticity, Griffith weaves together a classical, European epic of economic stratification and human compassion, remaining fair as ever in detailing the fall into decadence amongst all classes. With magnificent patience and dynamics in elaborate storytelling, a cataclysm of tension storms in crescendo towards its heart-wrenching climax and subsequent emotionally satisfying resolution.

We will SEE who will civilize whom first!

Intolerance is a commendable, audacious experimental failure. "God is not revealed through mediocrity."

I love Griffith! But only his epics! His small stuff is too boring!

I love Griffith! But only his small scale works! His epics are too big for their own good!

Wrong! A Corner in Wheat is history's first cinematic work of greatness sewn from an epiphany in groundbreaking thematic structure and content. All hail the father of film!

Griffith is theatre! He is not cinema!

Griffith is blockbuster! He is not art!

Griffith is melodrama! He is not realism!

Griffith is realism! He is not absurd!

Griffith is conventional! He is not experimental!

A warm, touching tribute of deep reverence towards Lincoln: the man, the myth and the legend, Griffith’s vision of earnestness is not to be undermined by petty frothing PC fascists of today. Any rustic idiosyncrasies only add to its sacramental charm and Huston's performance is simply dignity personified all the way to the grave. Accept no substitutes for this biopic. THE UNION MUST BE PRESERVED.

Griffith is experimental! He is not coherent!

Reminder that what people mean when they say David Wark Griffeth was stagey or "play-like" is that they're not accustomed to good cinematography or having taste. He was a pioneer and master of the tableau style of cinematography He advocated an objective lens. Depth, density, location, acute spatial alignment in the frame with subtle accentuating details were his hallmarks and therein constructed images worthy of being hung on a wall. Hardly something that can be claimed for much anybody else.

Taste.

Why does Dropout_bitch like Ozu?

>stare at camera
>spout moral of story
He likes being coddled and doesn't have any friends

He also likes to regurgitate incorrect academic opinions as a vain disguise for his lack of critical thought and failure to graduate

I didn't even watch intolerance, I just read the Wikipedia article and it sounded big and important : )

The real question is why doesn't he like Naruse?

Ozu is wonderful. You and I are not on good terms anymore, friend.
