Read books on how to be a people person and build connections because that shit will directly translate to your job opportunities regardless of what you're studying.

You mean as in studying art history or as in actually learning how to draw and paint?
The latter.
Definitely give the /ic/ sticky a look. It has a lot of helpful information. Most of the people there are aiming to work as commercial artists as opposed to fine artists but the fundamentals are the same for both so it shouldn't make much of a difference.
