1984

Is 1984,by George Orwell, worth reading? I've heard good things about it.

It's baby's first dystopia but yes.

Sure, as long as you don't take it too seriously.

NO!!
DON'T READ BOOKS, IT'S A TRAP

it's trotskyite propaganda, give it a skip unless your a trot

YES

unironically funny

Nah. Just read British news articles. Basically the same thing

Jesus Christ you could have just read it in less time than this tread will exist. Why ask? If you think maybe you should read something you should. What the fuck else are you going to do but try to oneup strangers on the fucking internet jesus h Christ

actually this.
also, start reading it and if you dont like it, just quit lmao. I think it is too dense too read, when i was firt tested on this at school, i read a resume, and got the idea well (i got an A and most didnt pass, but they didn't read neighter lmao).
It was intended as a commie propaganda but reflects what the sjws are doing now.

...

>too dense to read
Jesus fuck how braindead are you? The pages are small, the print is big, and it's still barely 300 pages. It's practically a novella.

I mean those pages are small but also empty of meaning

You should only ever read 1984 if you read Brave New World and Farenheit 451 immediately before and after. And of course it goes without saying that The Hunger Games is a prerequisit for all three.

I remember getting hard when he was fucking julia in the forest

It's classic literature so dense that it's practically non-fiction.

Also happens to have 60 pages of the main character reading fictitious non-fiction.

If you prefer enjoying a book over appreciating literary merit, then avoid it

Yes, it's an accessible book with an engaging (and also easily accessible) understanding of class division and oppression. It's probably best to read it in your mid-teens so you're experiencing the "starter kit" classics early on to later discover more advanced works, but really reading it at any age is fine. I thoroughly enjoyed it myself even if it is a very simplified depiction of oppression. Commonly read alongside with Animal Farm (also very enjoyable).

Did you finish school at all

It gets a lot of hate but I love this book, it's definitely worth reading. And it isn't very hard!

>Not getting the joke

I think it is worth a read. I thought it was more profound than it really is when I read it in hs but it's a quick read. Offers a basic exploration on language and its interaction with thought and humans.

I’ve put off reading this because I read Animal Farm first and did not like it at all. Is this better or is it more force-fed ideaology with shit tier prose?

All of his stuff is worth reading, even the essays and articles he wrote for Partisan Review. I recommend reading Burmese Days if you finish and enjoy Animal Farm/1984. If you want his political stuff (something which I understand puts people off), you can dig yourself into Homage to Catalonia and Road to Wigan Pier. "Down and Out" is also quite good.

He's not a great great writer per se, and people shouldn't get hung up on him, but there's something about his honesty that seems endearing. Maybe he was borderline autistic who knows.

I'm the middle of him reading...a book and it's really boring, I already know the ending so it's a bit dull. I don't regret reading it but it can be a bit depressing, but it's nice for me to read a story where the main characters aren't good people like most childrens and YA books.

It is, at the very least, an interesting thought experiment. Beyond that it really depends on how much you think you can tie it to the modern world.

Yes, OP, I'm a huge orson welles

1984?! Is this some kind of mathematics board?

...

Has some great insights into power and the state, but I doubt any type of worldwide order shown in the novel could ever exist

How come you didn’t like Animal Farm?

>force-fed ideology
It was just an allegory for the failure of the Russian Revolution user. If you think ideology was being shoved down your throat you missed the point of the book, I'm afraid. Hell it wasn't even against Marxism, Orwell himself was an avowed socialist.

Def need to read, it is well paced and easy to read so many here will tell you it is a immature book but it is definitely one of the best works of an incredibly influential author and needs to be read by anyone who likes books

incredibly important book. basically laid out the vernacular for anti-authoritarianism, and concepts like doublethink cant really be defined in a summary.
Just don't think that reading it makes you understanding of Orwell as a person or gives you a single convenient ruler by which to measure politics as a whole.

wew lad
