Why should I be moral?

Why should I be moral?

You'll be fighting a losing battle if you try to undo all your programming desu

If you ask the question you've probably already made up your mind and it's too late for you.

you'll go to hell if you don't

If you can't create your own values, then you should become morally inclined, because it'll improve your life.

You fulfill your capacities and become truly happy.

if God isn't moral why should you

this post is the epitome of slave morality

because a qt 3.14159 might see you being moral and think "he moral, i want to suck his dick now."

THIS IS THE ONLY REASON.

So how's A-Level Philosophy treating you

Because a moral life is the only life worth living

You're not satisfied with your own perception of yourself and the world, hence you ask on "why you should" be moral. You give to the other the responsibility to either convince you or fail to convince you so that you can retain a clear consciousness pretending you share this responsibility with the others who failed to explain to you why you should be moral. Your own decision is imprinted in the way you phrase the question, it is not the result of the debate, but the background you give to it, the initial state is that you don't want to be moral. If you were just pondering about it, you'd ask "why be moral?" but you are particularly bothered by a sense of obligation in being moral.

Be virtuous to be strong.

Being nice makes you feel good.

I remember that one Tolstoy short story about how a girl cried when she forgave a boy who hit her or something. To be kind and to forgive always feels better than to hate and to resent.

Feels good and almost always provides a net benefit for you. Of course, I'm talking about some basic moralistic principles and general friendliness/kindness, not idealistic objective autism.

>be like ted kacynski
>end up with life imprisonment or executed
>but at least I'm "free"

In a capital society one can only be free in their minds.
Slavery IS being

That one guy who lived in the sub-wilderness for 20 or 30 years and occasionally stole to survive lost his entire sense of self.

Because morality breeds companionship, which is inherently more valuable than any gains of immoral begettings

Because why would you not be? For money? You don't need them. Because you hate people? Only weak ones do that. Because you're frustrated with your life and you need to do edgy stuff like you see in the movies to have a glimmer of personality? That's pathetic. The only thing that matters in this life is that you have a structured, stable self and you don't bullshit yourself.

Without morality life has no meaning

>brings G-man into this

Whew lad. Nearly 2018 and you still bringin G-man to the Veeky Forums club?

Read Plato.

Because doing good things is good.

You ain't God.

If you agree that moral realism exists, you need no other justification. Believing that "it is good to X" is enough warrant to doing X.
If you don't believe in moral realism, try reading some meta-ethics because chances are, you're a complete pleb. Not that there aren't professional philosophers who are moral anti-realists, but among plebs that position is the most common.

By definition you twit

You can't escape morality, true amoralism is impossible

I see that you are a well-sorted student of J. B. Peterson.

I would also add another, more pragmatic view on that (that can be of interest to OP).
We, human beings, are living in a world where we can't be self-sufficient. That made us to live in a society. And society comes with benefits but demands one thing - you have to fit in.
If you choose the path of diverting from the moral code of the group you belong to you will find yourself in trouble. Because human brains like to be energy-efficient and jump to conclusions fast without seeing the big picture, you will be labeled as a bad man.
And I can tell you, that there is no worst place to be a baddie in a group of people that think of themselves as righteousness (and people generally like to think this about themselves). You will see quickly that if you act out of their moral code, they can be immoral to you. And there is many of them and you are one.
You can look at this like that. We don't let people to be held captive by another. Or for them to kill. But if you are a killer, you can be imprisoned or sentenced to death. You are out of our morality, so you can treat you immorallly.
So, bucko, if you want to be a bad man - don't get caught. That would mean you have to be smarter than most of us, because we (members of society) are watching and judging. Do you still want to try?

Because it keeps one sharp. (You) become slovenly otherwise.

Are you new here?

>seriously brings up the "current year" meme
not an argument

How exactly is God amoral? Because he punishes people for defying him? I think he does so rightfully. If you consider how immensely absurd it is for a human to defy God I think he's just in his responses.

"B-but endless love!!"

Of course He still loves you. That's why He allows you to a live a life with opportunities to return to His grace. Yeah life is shitty but at the end of the day you can always make the decision to walk the Path and return to Him. So what are you on about really?
