Just got a humanities degree and need to rid my brain of all that cultural marxist gunk. What does Veeky Forums recommend for cleansing the palate?
I'm really big on fantasy, science fantasy, and mythic cycles if that helps.

Did you ever try to question ideas you disagreed with? Or did you just sit at the back of the class internally REEing until you could get home and complain about it on /pol/?

>uses terms like "cultural Marxist"
>big nig on genre fiction
Checks out

What's wrong with that term?

Start with the Greeks like every great Western writer. What was your degree

>Did you ever try to question ideas you disagreed with?
Perhaps he wanted to pass his classes.

Fake buzzword. The Frankfurt School and Critical Theory is misunderstood.

There are that many recommendation images out there that you don't have to ask. Was the only point of this thread to make a hugbox and complain about 'liberal cucks' or something?

If he's American, why bother going into debt to study the humanities?

My professors were benevolent enough to let me wrestle with their ideas. It's not the people I had a problem with, but if I hear someone say "it's a social construct" one more time I'm going to blow a gasket. That's not a refutation and you've told me nothing useful. But to answer your question: No, but I do suck my thumb a lot and masturbate about 3 times a day so I cope in other ways.

Don't get me wrong, were there ever fantasy fiction it'd be the Communist Manifesto- literature is the only way that works out. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

BA in English, Literature, and Philosophy. Don't worry- I KNOW I'm fucked career-wise, but I love reading so y'know.

Nah, just wanted to say "hi" and be social.

I don't know? I just know that questioning certain things in colleges can be construed as creating an "unsafe environment" and end up causing you lots of problems.

You don't gotta stick up for me man- I'm a big boy, I can take care of myself. Appreciate the assist though.

That is a very good question and I'm glad you asked. I'll let you know when I do.

How can a term be fake? Regardless of its origins, if it carries a meaning (However belittling it may be) then is it fair to dismiss someone who uses it? What else would you call a collective of ideas that revolve around the culturally Marxist ideas of Far Left politics?

I'm not trying to be a dick by the way, if you can make me understand please do.

Geology major here. That area in the picture is almost certainly a supervolcano caldera, right down to the rhyolite dome that the city is built on. The entire thing is a volcano that could explosively erupt at any time obliterating the whole place. Not a smart place to build a city tbhqfam

Look I'm sorry, but the OP post just looked like a loaded question that was just a cover to complain about /pol/itics. If you want real recommendations look on the wiki in the pinned post.
I did the same degree, but in Australia.

Well welcome to one of the last places to actually discuss literature with people your age, hopefully it stays like that

i hope this is true and you paid a lot for that experience from a college nobody will respect.

if you want to cleanse you palate: read beowulf like they would have made you do the first week of a real humanities course where your degree would be worth something and have made you competent at the basics of english.

The term is constructed to generalize the group of far-left, Marxists. This is true, but it should not be used because culture is one aspect that is integral to Marxism. There is no reason to point it out as "Cultural Marxism." It is Marxism, plain and simple. Although, ultimately it does not matter.

FIUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKING LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLIBBBBBBBBBTARDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Thank you, Geology man. You've made that image so much more worthwhile to me.

It's all good, friend. I could have worded it a bit better and avoided the issue entirely. I looked at the list and it's got some good stuff that'll definitely go on "the list," although I'm looking for a broader selection of recommendations.

I feel very welcomed, thank you!

I'm actually way below the average debt for a college grad and I ain't fuckin' around with grad school either, so as far as I'm concerned I'm ahead of my peers (still behind everyone else, though).
And I do have Tolkien's translation, just haven't been able to sit through the whole thing yet. I'll move it up on my priorities.

REEEEEEEEEEEE ITS NOT A FUCKING CONSTRUCT YOU FUCKING KIKE
You've never even read the fucking Communist Manifesto. You went to a community college you retard.

>I'm actually way below the average debt for a college grad and I ain't fuckin' around with grad school either, so as far as I'm concerned I'm ahead of my peers (still behind everyone else, though).
god you're dumb
>And I do have Tolkien's translation, just haven't been able to sit through the whole thing yet. I'll move it up on my priorities.
dear god you're dumb

want a $30,000 rock? it's cheaper than the $50,000 rock and pre-translated.

OP you need:

Gene Wolfe
>Book of the New Sun

Eric Rücker Eddison
>The Worm Ouroboros
>The Zimiamvian Trilogy

Mervyn Peake
>Gormenghast series

Russell Hoban
>Riddley Walker

Nobody agrees with me and I'm a 4.0.
Try again, You're failing because you're a fucking idiot.

A valid point. I always saw it as the way in which culture was weaponized for the the purpose of advancing Marxism, almost like a verb.

Haven't heard of that book, what's the ISBN?

If you read my post, I never said it wasn't a social construct. In fact, I'd argue that most things are. All I said was that calling something a construct doesn't refute its reality.

(You)

Much obliged!

I already graduated when the PC nonsense wasn't quite as bad.

>All I said was that calling something a construct doesn't refute its reality.
Reality doesn't exist, it's an epistemic construct.
Calling something a construct is opening it to criticism. Too bad you're too stupid to even criticize a fucking rock.

Try The Book of Lost Tales part 2. I hear The Fall of Gondolin is a real cliff hanger.

>but if I hear someone say "it's a social construct"

Fucking this, my Philosophy of Religion professor keeps resorting to this line of argument whenever discussing modern social relations and feminist philosophy; she asks for my opinion, which I tell her is as yet unfixed, and then continues to propose that idea to me and the rest of our 4 person seminar. I don't wanna cuck out and internalize disagreements but they seem so set in their ways, and I don't want her to dislike me.

Grad school? If so, I hear politicing > actual proficiency. Fly under the radar and then publish something after graduating that'll make her bra-less tits spin. It's what she and her colleagues did, after all.

>A valid point. I always saw it as the way in which culture was weaponized for the the purpose of advancing Marxism, almost like a verb.

This is why I dont go on /pol/. It is easier to discuss important politcial topics without having everyone scream, "fucking (((libtards))), "Marxism was created by the Jews," and other such phrases. Im glad we agree so far, but do you agree with Critical Theory being misunderstood?

There are two great discussions here:

1. That it isnt a social construct, but joined together with neuro-chemistry, evolutionary biology, and human habit established over 100,000 generations.

2. That just because something is a construct doesnt mean it isnt a load bearing one that bears the weight of interpersonal interactions, and that pulling the string out wont cause a wholesale moral collapse. Culture exists, and building a true multicultural society will introduce a confrontational pluralism.

>read beowulf like they would have made you do the first week of a real humanities course
>And I do have Tolkien's translation,
Bahahahahahahaha I'm choosing to believe this isn't trolling because believing Merricunts believe that explains so many things.

What "translation" do American universities use for Chaucer? Do they know about Chaucer?

you sound like an unemployed Spanish grad student. Maybe an elementary teaching position will open up in the eastern Balearics one day and you can move out of mamas house.

Is that a "Chaucer is not taught here"? Do they really teach Tolkien as Beowulf?

Hmm, maybe. On the one hand, I agree with the supposition that academia went down the wrong path when reading this stuff and I don't think it's what the pioneers of Critical Theory had in mind. On the other hand, there's a certain reality to just how many people interpret Critical Theory in the ways they do. "A lie parroted enough times" and so forth. It might not be what Critical Theory was meant to be, but it's certainly turned into an ugly beast.
Another way of looking at it: ideas are fantastic until people actually get their hands on them.

Either you're misreading what I wrote or I've explained it poorly. Either way, have a (you).

>Either you're misreading what I wrote or I've explained it poorly. Either way, have a (you).
I just want to know if American universities really teach you Tolkien's Beowulf instead of Old English. Y/N?

If yes, do they teach Chaucer and is there a particular modernisation that is used for that if they do?

No, they teach in Old English. I picked up Tolkien's at a bookstore last semester and just hadn't gotten around to it.

Chaucer is also taught in Old English and is, as far as I'm aware, mandatory for even non-English majors within their first two semesters of uni. It's kind of a problem for the mechanical engineering folks who just want to do something useful with their lives.

>Chaucer is also taught in Old English
HWAT?

>Chaucer is also taught in Old English
who translated that?

Woops, misspoke. How embarassing

Everyone's used to Americans failing English.

You didn't graduate though.
>1. That it isnt a social construct, but joined together with neuro-chemistry, evolutionary biology, and human habit established over 100,000 generations.
STEMspergery is false so no this isn't a point.
>moral collapse.
Fuck off moralist subhuman.

Yeah I goofed pretty hard, shoulda seen my face.

Well, yeah, you goofed, you paid for that "education". How much did they take you for?

Starhammer by Chris Rowley.

test

I like your posting stile, but don't you think doing it for months will cause you health problems?

...

you sound dumb as AIDS, you should consider removing all your fingers from your hands with piano wire

You're acting like it has a rigid meaning.

It's entirely subjective. What it functionally means is 'every idea or action to the left of ME PERSONALLY, even ideas and actions that entirely contradict each other, and also ideas and actions that are not necessarily marxist, nor predominately related to culture'

It literally has no objective meaning. And you must know full well it's also an allegation of conspiracy. The implication is that all things to the left of you that you don't like(cultural marxism) are the product of one grand and insidious conspiracy, and that the proponents and originators of these things are largely in league with each other and following the same play book, never considering that the people you're grouping together often hate each other and have completely contradictory goals and aims. It's based on the notion that evil leftists infiltrated culture and academia, subverting everything, and tricking the world into believing wrong things. Never consider the possibility that people just organically think differently than you

This is very convenient, because if you find yourself in the embarrassing predicament where virtually every expert in a given subject disagrees with your feelings, you can discount their expertise and decades of study and research as the product of the conspiracy. Never for a moment let yourself imagine that the reason they all disagree with you is because your beliefs are retarded, and can't be sustained in the face of academic rigour. Never consider that maybe education correlates with ideas you don't like for any reason other than cultural subterfuge.

As a term it has no overlap with reality. All it is is a psychological tool to rationalize away evidence of your stupidity.

Forget your fantasies and read Solzhenitsyn. Nothing cures a love of Marxism quite so much as reading about how it actually played out.

THE DAMN BLOODY JUDEO BOLSHEVIKS i mean CULTURAL NEO MARXIST POSTPOSTMODERNISTS QUICK READ THIS FAT COLD WAR PROPAGANDA BOOK ABOUT THE GORILLION DEAD RUSSIANS SORT YOUR DRAGON OUT LITTLE BUCKLING

The Bible

Second

they actually did purposefully murder millions of Ukes and Russians user. Its exaggerated but Stalin has a confirmed kill count of at least 20 million

>Stalin has a confirmed kill count of at least 20 million
sauce?

necronomics, democide, type both in and have a field day.

best estimates since ~1995 are around 20-30 million

necrometrics, excuse me im withdrawing from thc and have had recurring nightmares of being rayped and murdered in total warfare situations all week. my bad

necrometrics and democide are what you want

>confirmed kill count
>best estimates
not really the same

oh so you didn’t even try to look at the sites and you basically wedged your foot into a semantics issue to deny that we can safelye stimate a kill count of 20 million people in the multiple decades of his bloodthristy, psychotic rule. So, you were looking to disprove me, not learn anything. which means you’re dishonest and an ideologue, which means you’re not worth continuing to respond to. did i say he’s worse than hitler? did i say he killed 60 million? nope. but you shut down because you didn’t get what you wanted. Confirmed, as in its extremely likely he killed around 17-25 million, 30 million max by all estimates. Confirmed for Hitler as in he also killed around 16-23 million. You sud probably go suck off a 16 year old boy since most marxists are pedophiles

sucking of a 16 yo doesn't make you a pedo lol

You're among the biggest idiots I've ever seen on chans.

Slit your throat, illiterate cunt bitch.

>months
*years
And no.

Anyone who comes out of university without a burning hatred of Marxism is a moral failure as a human being. Anyone who actually embraces Marxism is beyond the pale of humanity.

read some chivalric romances and listen to wagner

My nigga

cultural marxism is just marxism applied to culture. since marx was so fucking keen on applying things to other things why not apply his things to other things.

marxism applied to culture is marxist criticism.

cultural marxism is a different movement, because i doubt what /pol/ means when they say
>cultural marxism is destroying the western world
that there's been a run on tickets to a game of chess by middleton or that too many people are reading the faerie queene and understanding its context within the elizabethan renaissance. it seems unlikely they're talking about that at all.

Never post again

You sound like a bitch desu

Marxism directs its critique at production. Cultural Marxism directs its critique at consumption. Not at all the same.

Gee wiz, Lit doesn't like hearing about this topic.

No mate you just don't know what you're talking about in addition to being a fantasyfag

I’m so glad I’m not someone who would ever write this post, ironically or not.

>Sperging out this hard because someone insulted the humanities
How does it feel to live in a shitty small studio apartment with your 20 cats, babe? Will you get to stopping complaining about "STEMlords" and posting your tits?

> cultural marxism is just marxism applied to culture
How do you apply historical materialism to culture lmao kill urself bitchboi being critical over current culture has nothing to do with marx son

Why don't you guys move out to /leftypol/ like all the others did back then? Face it, you know who owns this site now.

/leftypol/ is filled with disgusting, mentally ill, degenerates who don't like to read, dump porn onto the catalogue constantly, can't meme at all but try to extremely hard and who recruit people off of /r/socialism and /r/anarchism. Also a huge population of sociopathic tankies and the board owner is a transsexual psychotic. Mods are cretins, there's pedos all over the board and 8/pol/ raids it constantly

also psyopping nazbols form twitter and /pol/ along with tankies who deny that the holodomer even happened make it extremely difficult to prevent Nationalism+Socialism from taking over the discourse, which already tends trend down to dickgirl and hentai threads

It's an oxymoron that generally gets used by people who don't understand what Marxism is but want to appear smart and conservative.
It's like saying "monetary capitalism" or "economic communism".

But communism isn't economic desu

Oh no, the big bad internet bully is pissing on his turf, g-guess I'd better leave huh guys...?

Yeah. bye bye

I'm not op sweetie

Tolkien is the only fantasy author any semi educated man has any business reading and not because his work is especially good but because of how influential it is. If you have no standards or self respect you can lurk in the SFFG for all of five minutes to find something else that might interest you, there is no reason for this thread to exist.
Your brain might filled with shit but I don't think reading genre fiction is going to change that.

>tolkein's translation
You really need to lurk a lot more. Pls stop posting for now, until you realize how retarded you currently sound. You have basically outed yourself as attending community college and going after a strawman of "cultural marxist gunk" based on your retarded community college peers, who are simply the tumblr-iteration of you: 20 years old, illiterate, angry, and directionless.

>but in Australia.
Which uni? La Trobe Uni reporting in

you retards need to stop making these shitty falseflag bait threads, you're as bad as the actual /pol/fags

>cultural marxist
You didn't happen to study history or anything actually involving politics, did you?

Sowell listens to Rush Limbaugh.
>What you learn from radio talk shows depends on how wide and how deep the knowledge of the talk show host is. Some of them — Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, G. Gordon Liddy and others — are right on top of things.

Then go back to r/books

>right on top of things
Didn't Rush call net neutrality 'fairness doctrine for the internet"?

This board is for adult white MEN to discuss the jewish pickle and cucktural marxism. I think faggit might be more your speed soyboy KEK.

>Confirmed, as in its extremely likely he killed around 17-25 million
Himself? Like with his own two hands? How exactly can you take such a wide historical instance and apply it to a single person or even to the Soviet Union for that matter? Why should we so conveniently ignore the unaccountable historical forces that lead to a catastrophic chain reaction of political change?
>You sud probably go suck off a 16 year old boy
You know what? That's exactly what I'm gonna go do.

Limbaugh is a climate change denier. He suggested that an "environmentalist" cabal planned the BP oil spill. He's also a creationist.
