What is you guys' author dream? Personally? I just want a small niche fanbase who feel strongly about my work. That's it. I don't want to be famous or anything, I just want like 10 crazy dudes who care about what's going on in my head. Sometimes I feel the only person who would care about what's going on in my head is me though.
Author dream
I want to become famous overnight as a postmodern poet of social justice and when my first book is being released and I attend my first public signing, I shoot lightning out of my hands into the crowd like Palpatine and everyone who liked my work is dead
It's a very nice goal, user. I hope you reach it.
I feel the same way. To make a few people deeply happy bowls over temporarily impressing the multitude
I just want to write as my job. I dont even care if Im broke I just want to write
People recognizing me on the street and throwing roses at my feet, to coyly smile and downplay the importance of works that will be taught in schools centuries after my death, for a barb from my official twitter account to so ruin someone that they can no longer go out in public with their face uncovered, and a throne and temple where people gather to hear me speak the wisdom of the New Aeon in between orgies.
>dreaming about an occupational attainment
I want to live in the mind of someone I've never met even if I'm dead.
I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I wonder if I'll be able to make people happy the same way authors have made me happy. God I hope so.
Don't we all?
Want to pass on your memes? I do too.
My dream is to simply survive off my work, and as of right now that's just $1000 USD per month. I have a small niche fanbase growing, it was 3 but 1 of them hasn't been responding to my emails as of late but I regularly swap emails with 2 guys. One's American and the other's Aussie, and they're fucking awesome. I know that as I keep going, I'll gain more readers, and I will inevitably not only meet that modest monetary goal but exceed it. By how much, I don't know, but if I continue to write books for 5-10 years, as I fully intend to do, I definitely think I can reach double that which could very well be enough for me to buy a small house on a small plot of land. 20 years? I'll still be less than 50 years old, I'll no doubt have over 100 books to my name with several series and several stand-alone novelettes, novellas, and novels.
More experience in writing will steadily improve my craft, I'll develop characters that really resonate with me and perhaps also others, and already one of those three major readers alluded to someday getting offers from agents to buy the movie rights or TV show rights to some of my books. That's very generous and I'm not convinced that my stuff will ever be put to TV or film but all the same he's a total stranger and I appreciate it.
I actually just checked my email and it's been nearly 2 months since we've spoken, so I just went ahead and sent him a message to see how he's getting on. Cancer survival, strong fellow, lives in Germany.
I'm pretty much in the same boat; even if it just covers my rent, food, utility bills, and liquor, that's fine by me. Still, I'd like to be able to go out at least every week or two, either to a nice restaurant for a meal or to a pub for a few drinks. I also enjoy getting a Subway sub to-go on occasion however I think I'll instead get sandwich meat at the grocery store to make my own. For the same price as an assorted cold cuts footlong, I can make 6 sandwiches, which must be at least 3x the food. 300g/0.66lb of meat in total. Apparently in a footlong cold-cut combo there's 107g of protein/fat, so yeah, potentially 3x as much food for almost the EXACT same price by just making my own!... why am I fucking talking about sandwiches, and why am I so excited about it? Fucking autism, I swear...
Where did you get your readers? Do you publish anywhere? If so, where?
Sell out to Hollywood and spend the rest of my days sniffing coke off of a dozen Cuban hookers' ass
Self-publishing via CreateSpace for paperbacks and Kindle for ebooks. The first of the three and probably the most diehard of the three (he's been the first to buy my last 6 or so books and takes it as a point of pride to have done so) read my first book on Kindle Unlimited for free, though I got paid in KENP. He left a favourable review and I managed to track down his blog. He's since plugged my books on his blog ever since, even though the people who like his blog don't much seem to like my books unfortunately, even though it seems as though it should be a sure thing. Quite odd.
I also have a website with an email address on it where people can contact me, and I think I have that email address in some of my books. So far, I've made several-hundred dollars from my writings, and that's from paperback, ebooks, KENP via Kindle Unlimited/KDP Select, ghostwriting, and writing custom erotica.
I want to get sweet pussy.

Come on, man, don't be like that.
Please don't take this as an insult, but are you new here?
Do you browse reddit a lot?
Shut up Leto you permavirgin fetishist wormy asshole
Thanks, it's been going fairly well. Working on a ghostwritten novelette at the moment which I'm hoping the buyer will like enough to hire me for sequels, which he's expressed plans to do but of course it all depends on if he likes it or not. Giving a low 'introductory offer' as it were, just $75, which is half my usual fee for a full-length novelette. The next will be at least $100, preferably the full $150 but we'll see how things go. My most profitable month so far has been about $135 so I will obviously surpass that if I get an order for a $150 novelette.
I've been on Veeky Forums for over a year, never been to Reddit before, nor Tinder or Tumblr or whatever. I don't even use Facebook or Twitter, even though that would be HUGELY beneficial to my promotional campaigns when I put books for free or at a discount.
To finish my story to my own satisfaction
Might never happen. Sometimes you just have to wrap things up and send it out.
Man, that's really great to hear! I'm very happy for you. I hope that it only gets better and better!
Thanks a lot, and I'm certain that it will. I've been working on making this a career for over a year and I'm still going strong, I'm more optimistic for the future than ever before. In fact now that I think on it, once I get this novelette ghostwritten, I have no less than three book projects I have in mind to do which will bring me to over a dozen self-published books. I don't know how long it'll take to do all three, they'll likely be a novel and two novelettes, potentially it can be finished in as little as two months or it could be twice that if I really end up taking my time at it. I also have some books already released that I ought to edit, so there's still lots of work to do. Feels great to have purpose, and that's a very important word.
To accomplish something I can respect. To make without needing an audience. To control how others see the world. To enslave the future with words.
I want to be a speech writer.
I know that this is not the normal response but, I would love to have my works be revered for hundreds of years after my death. Even if I don't get recognized while I am alive, as long as I get published then that's fine. I guess there is no way to really know if it ever happens though.
